Inanticipationofthis,anOfflineDesktopusercanusetheViewClientwith
Offline Desktopapplicationtodownloadacopyoftheirdesktopvirtualmachinefrom
theViewConnectionServerforuseonalocalcomputer—aneventthatalso“locks”the
onlinedesktopvirtualmachine,preventingitfrombeingaccessedfrom
anyother
location.
Oncedownloaded,Offlinedesktopsbehaveinthesamewayas theironlineequivalents
yetcantakeadvantageoflocalresources;latencyisminimizedandperformanceis
enhanced.Thepresenceofadownloadedvirtualmachinehasnoeffectontheexisting
operatingsystemoftheclientsystem,whichusers
cancontinuetoutilizeiftheywish.
AconsistentuserexperienceisensuredthroughuseofViewClientwith
Offline Desktopforbothonlineandofflinesessions.Inaddition,userscandisconnect
fromtheirofflinedesktopandthenloginagainwithoutconnectingtotheView
ConnectionServer.Oncenetworkaccessis
restored(orwhentheuserisready)the
checkedoutvirtualmachinecanbe:
Backedup—theonlinesystemisupdatedwithallnewdataandconfigurations,
buttheofflinedesktopremainscheckedoutonthelocalsystemandtheonlinelock
remainsinplace.
Rolledback—theofflinedesktopisdiscardedandtheonlinelockisreleased.
Futureclientconnectionswillbedirectedtotheonlinesystemuntilthedesktopis
checkedoutagain.
Checkedin—theofflinedesktopisuploadedtotheonlinehostandtheonlinelock
released.Futureclientconnectionswillbedirectedtotheonlinesystemuntilthe
desktopischeckedoutagain.
Theabilityofuserstodownloadanonlinedesktopforuseontheirlocalsystemis
conferredthroughentitlement
andOfflineDesktopaccesspolicy.Whileadesktopis
checkedout,ViewManageradministratorsarestillabletoaccesstheonlinesystem
whilemonitoringtheofflineequivalent.
