HDMI F.A.Q.
HDMI cable and features ?
Q : Does the installation of an HDMI 1.3 cable bring new
features ?
A : No. This will not create features that do not exist in your
equipments, but when you will get a new, more advanced
device, operation will be optimum.
FullHD TV, 1.3 cable mandatory ?
Q : My TV is Full HD (1920 x 1080 resolution), should I use a
1.3 cable ?
A : No, not necessarily. All Real Cable® cables are 1080p
compatible, which allow you to benefit from all the possibilities
of your display (assuming that the source also does).
How connecting several HDMI sources with one LCD +
one projector ?
Q : I have several HDMI sources and one LCD TV + one
Projector, and my A/V receiver has only one HDMI output, how
can I do ?
A : Use a Real Cable HDMI 4 input/2output switch (ref:
HDSD42) instead of your A/V receiver to connect your HDMI
sources to your 2 displays. Another solution is the HDS12
switch that allows you to send the Receiver’s HDMI output to
the TV or the Projector at your will.
New HD Audio format with HDMI1.2 A/V Receiver ?
Q : I would like to benefit from the new HD Audio formats
offered by the HDMI 1.3 of my HD Player, but my A/V receiver
is only HDMI 1.2 ?
A : By using a 5+1 analog cable connected between player’s
outputs and multichannel input of the A/V receiver (assuming
player and receiver have this connection), you benefit of the
maximum quality. The classical Coaxial and Optical are limited
to the common DTS or Dolby Digital. However, some HD
players are able to send via HDMI a 5+1PCM signal (LPCM),
with higher quality, and accepted by HDMI standard since 1.1,
but it is the result of a transformation of the original Audio HD
signal.
Non-HDCP DVI and HDMI ?
Q : My display has a non-HDCP DVI Input, can I connect
my HDMI player or find an HDMI player compatible with my
display ?
A : NO. The HDCP content protection protocol is a part of the
HDMI (HDMI = HDCP mandatory), thus there will not be any
picture in your case. Even if it is technically possible to override
Real Cable answers to your questions about the High Definition
Component or Scart ?
Q : My HD player has a Component output, can I connect it to
the Scart input of my TV ?
A : NO. The Component signal is basically different from the
RGB present in the Scart, a cable can not change the signal,
an active electronic conversion is necessary for this. Moreover,
the Scart, even in RGB, is not able to work with High Definition
signals.
A new 1.3 equipment, with TV in 1.1 ?
Q : I have just bought an HDMI 1.3 HD player, but my TV is only
1.1. Will this work, and what kind of cable should I have ?
A : YES. HDMI is retro-compatible, so the operation is ensured
with older HDMI version. Most of the equipments automatically
detect and self-adjust once connected.
Full HD TV and DVD player ?
Q : I have just bought FullHD TV, but my DVD player is in SD?
What is the usefulness of an HDMI 1.3 cable ?
A : In this case, such as in the previous one, the use of a 1.3
Cable is not necessary, but you may buy a Blu-ray player in
the future. So, being equipped in 1.3 makes you ready for the
future.
Only HDMI 1.3 equipments = 1.3 cable mandatory ?
Q : My 2 equipments have an HDMI 1.3, is it mandatory to
have a 1.3 cable for working ?
A : Not necessary, but recommended. The operation is ensured
with any version of cable. Nevertheless, only a 1.3 compatible
cable will allow you to benefit of the DeepColor feature.
Component or HDMI ?
Q : My player has both Component and HDMI output? My TV
has also these 2 inputs. Which one should I use ?
A : You should give your preference to the HDMI, which is
100% digital whereas Component is analog. All the modern
sources are Digital (DVD, HD satellite…) and the LCD/Plasma/
projectors also. Only a 100% digital connection is able to keep
the original quality, by avoiding the Digital/Analog conversions
which always lead to information loss. Moreover, HDMI also
handles the Audio, whereas the Component doesn’t. However,
Component is the second choice for the quality, when there
is no more HDMI input available on the display. Yet, an HDMI
switch will allow you to connect all your sources with the
highest quality.
