Photodetector - A semiconductor device who's output
changes in proportion to the amount of light striking its
sensing surface.
Quiet Zone - A clear space, containing no dark marks,
which precedes the start character of a bar code and follows
the stop character.
Resolution - The dimension of the smallest code element
which can be identified by an optical scanner. Normally
measured in thousandths of an inch.
Skew - Misalignment of the code symbol around the z-axis.
Specular Reflection - The mirror like reflection of light from
a surface.
Start/Stop Pattern - Patterns added to the bar code symbol
to indicate the direction that the symbol is being scanned.
UPC - Universal Product Code, the standard bar code
symbol for retail products in the United States.
