Installation
This chapter describes how to install the Harmony 802.11a PCI Card and software in a
computer running Windows 2000, Windows Millennium Edition (ME), or Windows 98
Second Edition (SE).
Pre-installation Considerations
Review the following pre-installation considerations before installing the Harmony
802.11a PCI Card.
Regulatory Warnings
FCC Guidelines
It is the responsibility of the installer and users of the Harmony 802.11a PCI Card
Model 8150 to guarantee that the antennas are operated at least 20 centimeters from
any person. This is necessary to insure that the product is operated in accordance
with the RF Guidelines for Human Exposure which have been adopted by the Federal
Communications Commission.
Radio Frequency Interference Requirements
The Harmony 802.11a PCI Card Model 8150 operates in the frequency range of 5.15 to
5.35 GHz; it is restricted to indoor use due to its operation in the 5.15 to 5.25 GHz
frequency range. FCC 15.407(e) requires that the device be used indoors in the
frequency range of 5.15 to 5.25 GHz to reduce the potential or harmful interference to
co-channel Mobile Satellite systems. Therefore the device should be used indoor only
for channel 36, 40, 44, and 48 and when 2X mode is enabled, channel 42 and 50.
High power radars are allocated as primary users of the 5.25 to 5.35 GHz and 5.65 to
5.85 GHz band. These radar stations can cause interference with and/or damage the
Harmony 802.11a PCI Card.
