2 Sniffer Portable
Power Considerations for Sniffer Portable Laptops
Most laptop computers include power configuration options that let you specify
whether the computer should be allowed to go into a standby or hibernate
mode after a specified period of inactivity. For computers actively running
Sniffer Portable, these options should always be disabled to preserve
stable system performance!
For example, MS-Windows 2000 and XP laptop computers include a Power
Options Properties control panel. The Power Options Properties control panel
is accessed by starting the Display control panel (Start > Settings > Control
Panel > Display), clicking on the Screen Saver tab and then clicking the
Power button. In this example, the following settings should be made for active
Sniffer Portable operations:
Power Schemes Tab
- Turn off hard disks = Never
- System standby = Never
Hibernate Tab
- Enable hibernate support = Disabled
NOTE: Some laptop vendors include their own proprietary software to
perform power configuration tasks. In these cases, you may need to make
similar changes in the configuration menu provided by the vendor.
