Technical Specifications
PROVA-MAT
Description
PROVA-MAT is a thin polypropylene
waterproofing membrane designed to be
applied with thinset under ceramic or stone
tile to most common substrates that are flat,
dry and structurally sound. Unlike liquid applied
waterproofing products, tile can be installed
immediately onto the PROVA-MAT. The PROVA-
MAT also provides a vapor barrier ideal for steam
room and sauna applications. Convenient
accessories are available to facilitate PROVA-
MAT installations such as pre-formed corners, seam
tape, pipe surrounds and PROVA-SEAL, a
waterproof adhesive for sealing seams and
bonding the membrane to metal and plastic
surfaces.
Properties
• Thin water proofing membrane
• No waiting time to install tile
• Uniform thickness and coverage
• Crack bridging properties
• High steam diffusion density
• High tensile strength
• Non rotting; fungus and mildew resistant
• Alkali resistant
Typical Applications
PROVA-MAT is ideally suited for waterproofing
vertical and horizontal substrates where ceramic
and stone tile will be installed such as in showers,
bathrooms, wellness areas, steam rooms, saunas,
and exterior patios, balconies and decks that are
not covering occupied space.
PRODUCT DATA SHEET
Suitable Substrates
Most common substrates that are dry, clean, and
structurally sound including plywood (EGP), drywall,
backer board and cement slab.
Installation Summary
The substrate must be clean, dry, flat and
structurally sound. Treat the corners and wall-to-
wall, wall-to-floor connections first by installing
PROVA CORNERS and PROVA JOINT tape. Using a ¼”
x 3/16” V-notch trowel, apply a latex modified
thinset to the substrate, then press the fabric into
the thinset using the flat side of the trowel t
aking
care to eliminate any air pockets. Dry cut the
PROVA-MAT to desired sections. Working from
bottom to top, install the large membrane sections
by applying thinset to the substrate using a ¼” x
3/16” V-notch trowel. Press the sections into the
thinset using the flat side of the trowel moving in a
diagonal direction. Ensure that any air pockets are
eliminated and check the back of the membrane for
proper thinset coverage. Adjacent sections must
overlap a minimum of 2”. Once the PROVA-MAT
installation is complete, tile can be installed
immediately using a latex modified thinset applied
following industry guidelines recommended for that
type of tile and application. Please consult detailed
PROVA-MAT installation instructions prior to use.
