Using DHCP Software to Configure Your Adapter
DHCP(DynamicHostConfigurationProtocol)softwareautomaticallyassignsIPaddressesto
clientstationsloggingontoaTCP/IPnetwork.
DHCPisbasedonBootPandmaintainssomebackwardcompatibility.Themaindifferenceisthat
BootPwasdesignedformanualconfiguration,whileDHCPallowsfordynamicallocationof
networkaddressesandconfigurationsto
newlyattacheddevices.
BecautiousaboutusingDHCPsoftwaretoconfigureyouradapter.ADHCPservertypically
assignsafiniteleasetimetotheofferedIPaddress.
When50%oftheleasedtimehasexpired,theILX34AENWGadapterattemptstorenewitsIP
addresswiththeDHCPserver.
The
possibilityexiststhattheadapterwillbeassignedadifferentIPaddress,whichwouldcause
theadaptertoceasecommunicatingwiththeControlLogixcontroller.
RefertoConfiguretheILX34AENWGAdapterwithFixedIPAddress(page28).
Caution: To avoid unintended control, the ILX34-AENWG adapter must be assigned a fixed IP
address. The IP address of this adapter should not be dynamically provided. If a DHCP server is
used, it must be configured to assign a fixed IP address for your adapter.
Failure to observe this precaution may result in unintended machine motion or loss of process
control.
