6.5.7 Parabolic reflector antennas
Aparabolicreflectorantennaconsistsofaparabolicshapeddishandafeedantennalocatedin
frontofthedish.Powerisradiatedfromthefeedantennatowardthereflector.Duetothe
parabolicshape,thereflectorconcentratestheradiationintoanarrowpattern,resultingina
high‐gainbeam.
The
antennapatternisabeampointedawayfromtheconcavesideofthedish.Beamwidthand
antennagainvarywiththesizeofthereflectorandtheantennaconstruction.Typicalgainvalues
are15to30dBi.
Theantennapolaritydependsonthefeedantennapolarization.
6.5.8 Adding bi-directional amplifiers
Abi‐directionalamplifiermaybeneededifanapplicationrequireslonglengthsofcoaxialcable
toreachtheantenna.Theamplifierisdesignedtoputmaximumtransmitpowerrightatthe
antennaandboostthereceivedsignalprimarilytoovercomethecableloss.Youcanonlyusean
amplifierfrom
ProSoftTechnologythatisspecificallyapprovedforusewiththeILX34‐AENWG
radio,andonlyincountrieswheretheamplifieroptionisapproved.
Thebi‐directionalamplifierisdesignedtooperatewithacoaxialcablelossbetweentheradio
andamplifierof6.5dBto20dB.Theoutputis
always1/2W,regardlessoftheinputlevel.With
lessthan6.5‐dBloss,theamplifiermaximuminputratingwillbeexceeded.Withmorethan20‐
dBcableloss,theamplifierwillnotturnon.
