IfyouconnectaradioandtheEthernetLEDdoesnotlightontheradio,youmayhaveusedthe
wrongcabletype.Inotherwords,youmayhaveusedacrossovercablewhenyoushouldhave
usedastraightthroughcable,orviceversa.
Useastraightthroughcable
whenconnectingtheradiotoanEthernethubora10/100BaseT
Ethernetswitch.Straightthroughcablesareusedinmostcases.
UseacrossovercablewhenconnectingtheEthernetradiodirectlytoanydevicethatisNOTa
switchorahub(forexample,adirectconnection
toaPC,PLC,orprinter).

Therecommendedcableiscategory5orbetter.Acategory5cablehasfourtwistedpairsofwire
thatarecolorcodedandcannotbeswapped.Theradiousesonlytwopairs.Onepairusespins1
and2,andthesecondpairusespins3and6.
Usea
straightthroughcablewhenconn ectingtheradiotoanEthernethubora10/100
BaseTEthernetswitch.Straightthroughcablesareusedinmostcases.
UseacrossovercablewhenconnectingtheEthernetradiodirectlytoanydevicethatisNOT
aswitchorahub(for
example,adirectconnectiontoaPC,PLC,orprinter).
EthernetcablingislikeU.S.telephonecables,exceptthatithaseightconductors.Somehubs
haveoneinputthatcanaccepteitherastraightthroughorcrossovercable,dependingonthe
switchposition.Inthiscase,youmustensurethatthe
switchpositionandcabletypeagree.
