On a continuous basis:
1) Keeptheareaaroundtheboilerfreeandclearfromcombustiblematerials,gasoline,andotherammablevaporsand
liquids.
2) Keeptheareaaroundtheboilerandboilerroomventilationopeningsclearofobjectswhichmightobstructtheowof
combustionandventilationair.
Every three months:
Boilerwatermustbemonitoredthroughouttheheatingseason.Boilerwatermustbetestedeverythree(3)monthsfor
theconstituentsshowninTable3.Ifchloride,totalhardness,orpHlevelsintheboilerwaterareoutsideofthelevelsshown
inTable3,excessivemake-upwaterisbeingadded.Findandrepairallsystemleaks,drain,andrelltheboilerwithfresh
make-upwaterthatmeetsthecriteriainTable3.Thenbringtheboilertopressurefor15minutestodriveoffexcessoxygen.

Attheendofeachheatingseason,drainandrelltheboilerwithfreshmake-upwaterthatmeetsthecriteriainTable3to
alevel4-6inchesabovethenormalwaterline.Thenbringtheboilertopressurefor15minutestodriveoffexcessoxygen.
On an annual basis:
1) Turnoffelectricalpowerandgassupplytotheboiler
2) Inspecttheuepassagesforsignsofblockage.Ifthereisanycarboninthecombustionchamberortheuepassages,
cleantheheatexchangerbeforeproceedingfurther.Seethecleaningprocedurebelow.
3) Removeanydebrisfoundinthecombustionchamber,beingcarefulnottodisturbcombustionchamberinsulation.
4) Removeallburners,notingthelocationofthepilotmainburner.Ifburnersshowsignsofdeterioration,theyshouldbe
replaced(somediscolorationaroundtheburnerportsisnormal).Cleantheburnersbyrstbrushingtheportswithasoft
bristlebrushandthenvacuumingoutanydebristhroughtheventuriopening.
5) Inspectthepilotassembly. Cleananydepositsfoundontheelectrodeandgroundingstrap.Theidealgapbetweenthe
electrodeandthegroundstrapis1/8”.Inspecttheporcelainforcracksorotherdeterioration.Replacepilotassemblyif
deteriorationisfound.
6) Inspectthecombustionchamberinsulationfordeterioration.
7) Inspecttheignitioncableinsulationforcracksorotherdeterioration.Ifdeteriorationisfound,replacecable.
8) Reinstallburners,beingcarefultoputthepilotburnerbackinitsoriginallocation.
9) Inspectallboilerwiringforlooseconnectionsordeterioration.
10) Inspecttheventsystem:
• Makesurethattheventsystemisfreeofobstructions.
• Makesurethatallventsystemsupportsareintact.
• Inspectjointsforsignsofcondensateoruegasleakage.
• Inspectventingcomponentsforcorrosionorotherdeterioration.Replaceanydefectiveventcomponents.
