About the Sound Banks on Mac OS X (DVD version only)
Before you launch Reason for the first time under Mac OS X, make sure the Reason DVD is inserted. This
will allow the program to copy the Factory Sound Bank and Orkester sound bank to your hard disk.
Updating from Reason Version 7.0 or later
If you are updating from Reason, Version 7.0 or later, you can download the “Reason 8.2 without
soundbanks” version to minimize the download time (and file size). Proceed as follows to install the
“Reason 8.2 without soundbanks” version:
1. Download Reason 8.2 without soundbanks.
2. Unzip the download file (Windows) or mount the disk image file (Mac OS X).
D On Windows, double-click the Install Reason 8.exe file and follow the instructions on
screen.
D On Mac OS X, drag the Reason 8 folder to the “Applications” folder.
3. Drag the Factory Sound Bank and Orkester sound bank ReFills from the old “Reason”
program folder and drop in the new “Reason 8” folder.
! Also, make sure there are no other ReFills left in the old “Reason” folder!
4. On Mac, delete the old “Reason” folder. On Windows, uninstall the old Reason version.
5. Launch Reason 8.2.
Reason asks to download some additional content (ID8.dat). When done, Reason automatically moves
the Factory Sound Bank and Orkester sound bank to separate sub-folders in the following locations
on the hard disk:
Windows:
C:\ProgramData\Propellerhead Software\Soundbanks\
Mac OS X:
/Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/Soundbanks
The factory sound banks will be located here so that Reason can be automatically updated in the fu-
ture without affecting/deleting the existing factory sound banks.
If Reason shouldn’t find the factory sound banks at this location, they will be automatically downloaded
from the Propellerhead web site and put there.
The Authorization system
Reason uses an authorization system designed to be as flexible as possible, while at the same time
providing the best possible copy protection for the product. Here's how it works:
The core of the authorization system is your license number, which is registered to your
user account on the Propellerhead web site.
If you have a working Internet connection you can run Reason with Internet Verification.
The program will then contact the Propellerhead web site and verify that Reason is registered to your
user account.
If you need to use Reason without Internet access, you can download and install the
Codemeter application and then authorize your computer (or Ignition Key hardware)
from your Propellerhead user page.
During start-up Reason automatically detects that your computer is authorized.
You can also choose to authorize an optional physical Ignition Key (USB stick) or Propellerhead Bal-
ance audio interface to run Reason in authorized mode, anywhere and on any computer.
