Ingestion(Swallowing):Thismaterialisagasundernormalatmosphericconditionsandingestionisunlikely.
Mostimportantsymptomsandeffects,bothacuteanddelayed:Lighthydrocarbongasesaresimpleasphyxiantsandcancause
anestheticeffectsathighconcentrations.Symptomsofoverexposure,whicharereversibleifexposureisstoppe
d,caninclude
shortnessofbreath,drowsiness,headaches,confusion,decreasedcoordination,visualdisturbancesandvomiting.Continued
exposurecanleadtohypoxia(inadequateoxygen),rapidbreathing,cyanosis(bluishdiscolorationoftheskin),andnumbnessofthe
extremities,unconsciousnessanddeath.
NotestoPhysician:Epinephrineandothersympathomimeticdrugsmayi
nitiatecardiacarrhythmiasinpersonsexposedtohigh
concentrationsofhydrocarbonsolvents(e.g.,inenclosedspacesorwithdeliberateabuse).Theuseofotherdrugswithless
arrhythmogenicpotentialshouldbeconsidered.Ifsympathomimeticdrugsareadministered,observeforthedevelopmentof
cardiacarrhythmias
