Bulb HDR and Bulb Ramping exposures must fit the currently set frame interval and yet still have time to
be recorded to the memory card. Promote Control will use this information calculate the longest
exposure time that can be used. The default setting of 1800 ms (1.8 seconds) should be adequate for
most cameras.
If your Bulb Ramping sequences are interrupted and your camera LCD indicates that its temporary image
buffer is full, you may want to increase this setting and seeing if that helps. A value that is too high will
not have overly dramatic consequences, but may limit Promote Control ability to complete an Advanced
Bulb Ramping sequence.
You may also try decreasing this setting when you are absolutely certain that under no circumstances
your current camera settings will lead to images that take longer to be recorded. However note that
setting this value too low may lead to camera inability to take images in Bulb HDR or (especially) Bulb
Ramping modes.
If everything works as expected, it is recommended to leave this setting at default value of 1800 ms.
8.3.23 Use assist cable for bulb ramp / bulb HDR
Default: Yes
By default Promote Control will expect an optional Bulb Ramp / Bulb HDR Assist cable connected in Bulb
Ramping / Bulb HDR mode. If your camera is incompatible with Bulb Ramping assist cable, change this
setting to No. Please note that without a Bulb Assist cable, Promote Control will be unable to achieve as
fast a shutter speed in Bulb mode as with that cable connected and enabled via this setting.
8.3.24 Shutter close delay safety margin
Default: Normal
This setting is only used for Bulb HDR or Bulb Ramping modes. This setting controls how much of
a safety margin Promote Control will apply when doing Bulb Ramping and Bulb HDR on exposures close
to the shutter closing limit. All cameras have different shutters, and some higher end cameras (such as
Canon 5D Mark III) may have shutter close times that are more consistent than others. If your camera is
a higher end type, you may try changing this setting to "Minimal". This may offer a shorter Bulb
Ramping / Bulb HDR exposure that can be obtained without having to resort to ISO ramping / ND filters.
However on cameras with less consistent shutters, "Minimal" setting may lead to less consistent
exposures. If in doubt, leave at default.
8.3.25 Shutter close delay
Default: 40 ms
This setting is only used for Bulb HDR or Bulb Ramping modes. This setting must be calibrated
before using any of the modes above. Default value of 40 milliseconds is adequate for some cameras,
but introduce exposure inaccuracy in Bulb HDR / Bulb Ramping modes.
