Background activity refers to any of several functions that take place in the background while normal operation
of the Vess continues.
Background activities work in conjunction with disk arrays and logical drives. See “Managing Disk Arrays (CLU)”
on page 439 and “Managing Logical Drives (CLU)” on page 454 for more information about how and when to
use background activities.
Background Activity Management includes the following functions:
“Viewing Current Background Activities” (below) and “Making Background Activity Settings” on page 494.

From the Main Menu, highlight Background Activities and press Enter. A count of current background activities
appears, including:
• Rebuild
• PDM (Predictive Data Migration)
• Synchronization
• Redundancy Check
• Migration
• Transition
• Initialization
• Media Patrol
