View-DR.
View-DR technology from Sony offers an extremely wide
dynamic range.
Brilliant clarity even with strong
backlighting
View-DR is one of Sony’s strongest and most
powerful features. Combining the power of
our new Exmor CMOS sensor with Visibility
Enhancer, we bring you the industry’s best-
in-class wide dynamic range at 130db.
Real time, within the camera, we can take
up to 120 pictures per second. Four of
these pictures, each taken with a different
exposure time, are then combined using
a complex algorithm. Visibility Enhancer is
then applied to enhance the colour tones
and brightness further.
As can be seen from the examples shown
below, this feature is invaluable in scenes
which suffer from strong backlighting.
Typically installers would choose between
repositioning the camera away from the
back lighting, or adding artificial lighting to
those areas that have been made dark.
For the end user this is not the best solution,
they need a camera which can be installed
anywhere and gives them brilliant picture
quality in all lighting conditions, all year round.
Using this technology will not introduce
motion blur and does not limit the
camera’s frame rates or resolution. You
will still be able to encode HD video at full
frame rate and can even dual stream too.
One image is taken using a standard exposure time and either one or three images are
taken using very short exposure times, depending on the camera type.

DR
View-DR is realized in the latest Wide-D technology, the Exmor CMOS sensor with a high-
speed readout capability, and adaptive image enhancement with a Visibility Enhancer
feature. Sony cameras with View-DR function can reproduce the details of objects and
backgrounds, even in high-contrast conditions.
