Forbiddenfoods
Ifyouchooseacookingmethodusingmicrowaves,youshouldnever:
• Attempttofryfood‐itisimpossibletocontrolthetemperatureoftheoilandother
fats‐fire‐risk.
• Attempttocookorwarmupeggsintheirshells,hard‐boiledeggswithorwithout
their
shellsorsnails‐theymayexplode.
• Attempttocookfoodinanintactshell(e.g.chestnuts)orhardskin(tomatoes,
potatoes,sausages)‐alwaysmakeaslit.
Foodtemperatures
Theactionofmicrowavesissuchthatonlythefoodisheated.Thecontainermay,
therefore,remaincoldorcoolwhile
thefoodthatitcontainsisburninghot.
Toavoidanyriskofburning,alwaysstirbeforeservingandcheckthetemperature
carefullybeforeserving‐especiallytochildren.
Shakefeedingbottleswellandtryafewdropsonthebackofyourwristtocheckthe
temperature.
Preparingfoodforcooking
Beforewarmingfeedingbottlesandsmallpots,removeteatsandcovers.
Remembertocoverthefoodinorderto:
• avoidanysplashingoftheovencavity,
• retainsufficientmoistureforcooking.
Heatingliquids
Whenheatingliquids,asuddenoverflowmayoccurwhenyoutakethecontainerto
removeitfromtheappliance.Infact,whenthetemperaturereachesboilingpoint,
steamtendstoremaintrappedintheliquiduntilitisdisturbed.
Toavoidthissuperheatingeffectandtheconsequentriskofscalding,alwaysplacea
plasticspoonintheliquidtobeheated.
Acontainercaneasilybetestedformicrowave“transparency”:
Placetheemptycontainerontheturntabletogetherwithaglassofwaterandrun
theovenforoneminuteatmaximumpower.
Afteroneminute:
• ifthecontaineriscold,itis“transparent”andcanbeusedformicrowavecooking,
• ifthecontaineriswarmorhotitisabsorbentandmustnotbeusedformicrowave
cooking.
