BEFORE YOU BEGIN Thank you for selecting the revolutionary PROFORM® POWER 1080 treadmill. The POWER 1080 treadmill offers an impressive selection of features designed to make your workouts at home more enjoyable and effective. And when youʼre not exercising, the unique treadmill can be folded up, requiring less than half the floor space of other treadmills. ing this manual, please see the front cover of this manual.
ASSEMBLY To hire an authorized service technician to assemble the treadmill, call 1-800-445-2480. Assembly requires two persons. Set the treadmill in a cleared area and remove all packing materials. Do not dispose of the packing materials until assembly is completed. Note: The underside of the treadmill walking belt is coated with high-performance lubricant. During shipping, some lubricant may be transferred to the top of the walking belt or the shipping carton.
1. Make sure that the power cord is unplugged. Place a piece of cardboard below the rear of the Frame (56) to protect the floor or carpet. 1 Attach the Left Wheel Cap (96) to the Base (94) with two #8 x 3/4" Screws (2). 56 Attach the Right Wheel Cap (not shown) to the right side of the Base (94) in the same way. 94 2. Pull the Upright Wire (81) and the Base Ground Wire (110) through the indicated hole in the Base (94).
4. Hold the Left Upright (89) against the Base (94). Be careful not to pinch the Upright Wire (81). Insert two 3/8" x 1 1/4" Bolts (8) with two 3/8" Star Washers (13) and two 3/8" x 2 3/4" Bolts (7) into the Left Upright. 4 81 89 Partially tighten the 3/8" x 2 3/4" Bolts (7) and the 3/8" x 1 1/4" Bolts (8) until the heads of the Bolts touch the Left Upright (89); do not fully tighten the Bolts yet. Note: Use the short hex key. Attach the Right Upright (not shown) in the same way.
6. Cut the plastic tie in the Left Handrail (88) and the Right Handrail (not shown). If necessary, press the 5/16" Cage Nuts (31) back into place. 6 81 Identify the Left Handrail (88) and hold it near the Left Upright (89). Insert the Upright Wire (81) through the bracket on the bottom of the Left Handrail. Pull the Upright Wire out of the end of the Left Handrail. 31 Tie 88 89 7.
8. Set the console assembly face down on a soft surface to avoid scratching the console assembly. Remove the two Screws (A). Next, lift off the Crossbar (93). Discard the two Screws. 8 Console Assembly A 93 9. IMPORTANT: To avoid damaging the Crossbar (93), do not use power tools and do not overtighten the #10 x 3/4" Screws (9) or the #10 x 3/4" Flat Head Screws (112). 9 9 Orient the Crossbar (93) as shown.
. Set the console assembly on the Left Handrail (88) and the Right Handrail (87). Be careful not to pinch any wires. Insert the excess Upright Wire (not shown) into the Left Handrail. Attach the console assembly with six #8 x 1/2" Screws (1) and four 1/4" x 1/2" Bolts (36) with four 5/16" Flat Washers (113) and four 1/4" Star Washers (35) as shown. Start all six Screws and all four Bolts, and then tighten each of them. See step 7.
14. Hold the Left Upright Cover (79) against the console assembly. Align the holes in the Left Upright Cover with the holes in the Left Upright (89). Attach the Left Upright Cover with three #8 x 1/2" Screws (1). 14 Attach the Right Upright Cover (80) to the Right Upright (90) in the same way. 1 80 Console Assembly 1 90 15. Attach the Left Tray (107) and the Right Tray (108) to the console assembly with four #8 x 1/2" Screws (1).
16. Make sure that there is a piece of cardboard below the rear of the Frame (56). IMPORTANT: See page 15 and plug in the power cord. Next, see page 17 and turn on the power. 16 IMPORTANT: Make sure to follow all instructions in this step Then, press the Incline increase button once. Press the Grommet (77) into the square hole in the Base (94). 19 94 77 20. Make sure that all parts are properly tightened before you use the treadmill. If there are sheets of plastic on the treadmill decals, remove the plastic.
OPERATION AND ADJUSTMENT THE PRE-LUBRICATED WALKING BELT Your treadmill features a walking belt coated with highperformance lubricant. IMPORTANT: Never apply silicone spray or other substances to the walking belt or the walking platform. Such substances will cause excessive wear. HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD DANGER: Improper connection dance with all local codes and ordinances. IMPORTANT: The treadmill is not compatible with GFCI-equipped outlets and may not be compatible with AFCI-equipped outlets.
CONSOLE DIAGRAM FEATURES OF THE CONSOLE You can also listen to your favorite workout music or audio books with the consoleʼs premium stereo sound system while you get in shape. The treadmill console offers an impressive array of features designed to make your workouts more effective and enjoyable. When the manual mode of the console is selected, you can change the speed and incline of the treadmill with the touch of a button. As you exercise, the console will display continuous exercise feedback.
HOW TO TURN ON THE POWER HOW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE IMPORTANT: If the treadmill has been exposed to cold temperatures, allow it to warm to room temperature before turning on the power. If you do not do this, you may damage the console displays or other electrical components. Plug in the power cord (see page 15). Next, locate the power switch on the treadmill frame near the power cord. Make sure that the switch is in the reset position. 1. Insert the key into the console.
If you press one of the numbered Quick Speed buttons, the walking belt will gradually change speed until it reaches the selected speed setting. To select a speed setting that includes a decimal—such as 3.5 mph—press two numbered buttons in succession. For example, to select a speed setting of 3.5 mph, press the 3 button and then immediately press the 5 button.
handrails—avoid moving your hands. When your pulse is detected, your heart rate will be shown. For the most accurate heart rate reading, continue to hold the contacts for about 15 seconds. To reset the console, press the iFit Menu button in the upper right corner of the screen. To pause the workout, press the Pause button. To continue the workout, press the Resume button or the Start button. To end the workout and select a new workout, press the New Workout button.
HOW TO USE A SET-A-GOAL WORKOUT ing belt will begin to move. Hold the handrails and begin walking. 1. Insert the key into the console. The workout will function in the same way as the manual mode (see pages 17 to 19). See step 1 on page 17. 2. Select the start menu. The workout will continue until you reach the goal that you set. The walking belt will then slow to a stop, and a workout summary will appear on the screen. After you view the workout summary, press the Done button. See step 2 on page 17.
HOW TO USE A CALORIE BURN WORKOUT OR AN ALL-TERRAIN TRAILS WORKOUT Press the Profile button at the top of the screen near the time display to view a profile of the incline settings of the workout. To return to the map, press the Trail button at the top of the screen. 1. Insert the key into the console. 4. Start the workout. See step 1 on page 17. 2. Select the start menu. Press the Start Workout button to start the workout. A moment after you press the button, the walking belt will begin to move.

In addition, if you manually change the speed or incline of the treadmill during the workout, the number of calories you burn will be affected. The workout will continue in this way until the last segment ends. The walking belt will then slow to a stop. A workout summary will then appear on the screen. After you view the workout summary, press the Done button. 5. Monitor your progress.
HOW TO USE THE IFIT LIVE MODE The iFit Live mode enables the treadmill to communicate with your wireless network. With the iFit Live mode, you can download personalized workouts, create your own workouts, track your workout results, and access many other features. See www.iFit.com for complete information. 1. Connect your treadmill to your own wireless network. See steps 1 and 2 on pages 24 and 25. To activate and use the iFit Live mode, you must have your own wireless network; you must have an 802.
HOW TO USE THE STEREO SOUND SYSTEM 2. Select the wireless network mode. To play music or audio books through the consoleʼs speakers, you must connect your MP3 player, CD player, or other personal audio player to the console. Press the Wireless Network button on the screen. You must have your own wireless network and an 802.11b/g router with SSID broadcast enabled (hidden networks are not supported). Locate the audio wire. Plug one end into the audio jack on the side of the console.
To use a static DNS, press the Use Static DNS button. Enter at least one DNS. Press the arrow buttons to view additional entry boxes. When you are finished, press the Submit button. To return to the advanced settings screen, press the Cancel button. To set up an iFit Live account, or for more information about the account, go to www.iFit.com. 4. Change the international settings. Press the International button to change the language and unit of measurement.
HOW TO USE THE MAINTENANCE MODE press the Begin button, the treadmill will automatically rise to the maximum incline level, lower to the minimum incline level and then return to the starting position. This will recalibrate the incline system. When the incline system is calibrated, press the Finish button.
6. Perform a network test. If desired, press the Network Test button to check the connection status of the treadmill. The previous router status shows whether the treadmill has ever connected to a wireless router. The current router status shows whether the treadmill is currently connected to a wireless router. The network access status shows whether the treadmill can connect to your wireless network. The DNS status shows whether the treadmill can communicate with the DNS server. The iFit.
HOW TO FOLD AND MOVE THE TREADMILL HOW TO FOLD THE TREADMILL To avoid damaging the treadmill, adjust the incline to the lowest position before you fold the treadmill. Then, remove the key and unplug the power cord. CAUTION: You must be able to safely lift 45 lbs. (20 kg) to raise, lower, or move the treadmill. 1. Hold the metal frame firmly in the location shown by the arrow below. CAUTION: Do not hold the frame by the plastic foot rails. Bend your legs and keep your back straight.
TROUBLESHOOTING Most treadmill problems can be solved by following the simple steps below. Find the symptom that applies, and follow the steps listed. If further assistance is needed, see the front cover of this manual. PROBLEM: The power does not turn on SOLUTION: a. Make sure that the power cord is plugged into a surge suppressor, and that the surge suppressor is plugged into a properly grounded outlet (see page 15).
Locate the Reed Switch (52) and the Magnet (50) on the left side of the Pulley (49). Turn the Pulley until the Magnet is aligned with the Reed Switch. Make sure that the gap between the Magnet and the Reed Switch is about 1/8 in. (3 mm). If necessary, loosen the #8 x 3/4" Tek Screw (14), move the Reed Switch slightly, and then retighten the Screw. Reattach the Motor Hood (not shown) and run the treadmill for a few minutes to check for a correct speed reading. 52 14 1/8 in.
b. If the walking belt slips when walked on, first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Using the hex key, turn both idler roller bolts clockwise, 1/4 of a turn. When the walking belt is correctly tightened, you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 in. (5 to 7 cm) off the walking platform. Be careful to keep the walking belt centered. Then, plug in the power cord, insert the key, and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes.
EXERCISE GUIDELINES WARNING: Before beginning this Burning Fat—To burn fat effectively, you must exercise at a low intensity level for a sustained period of time. During the first few minutes of exercise, your body uses carbohydrate calories for energy. Only after the first few minutes of exercise does your body begin to use stored fat calories for energy. If your goal is to burn fat, adjust the intensity of your exercise until your heart rate is near the lowest number in your training zone.
SUGGESTED STRETCHES The correct form for several basic stretches is shown at the right. Move slowly as you stretch—never bounce. 1. Toe Touch Stretch Stand with your knees bent slightly and slowly bend forward from your hips. Allow your back and shoulders to relax as you reach down toward your toes as far as possible. Hold for 15 counts, then relax. Repeat 3 times. Stretches: Hamstrings, back of knees and back. 1 2. Hamstring Stretch Sit with one leg extended.
