TheDSO480’s“D‐Max”limiterprede lays thesidechainsignal,resultingina“zeroovershoot”limiter,whichis
abletocatchallpeaksandprovideareliableabsolutemaximumsettingfortheoutputofanychannel.
Thepredelayedsidechainisshowningreen,withthemain
signalinred.Asthemai
nsignalarrivesslightlyafterthe
sidechain,theoutputfromtheunitdoesnotsufferfrom
theovershootproblem.
Rememberthatthisdelayisonlyintheorderoftensof
uS,andisapredelay–thesidechainismovedbackintime
inrelationtothemainsignal.Insertingadelayintothe
mainsi
gnalpathofananaloguedynamicsprocessorwill
achievesimilarresults,butwiththepenaltyofdelayingthe
mainsignalbytheamountoflookaheaddelayintroduced.
The“D‐Max”limiterwhichappears inoutputlistsjustfollowingthetraditionallimiter,hasonlytwo
parameterstoadjust:
OP1 Output 1 ClipLim
Rel.= Medium 10dB Above
Thereleasetime(eitherFast,Medium,orSlow)andthethreshold.Notethatthethreshold isset tobe
aminimumof2dBabovethethresholdoftheprogramlimiter–settingthethresholdto10dBAbove,asin
theexample,meansthatnomorethan10dBofovershootabovethethresholdoftheprogramlimiterwill
everbeallowed.
