ProgramLimiterand“DMax”Limiter
TheDSO480 unitshavetwolevelsofdynamicprotectiononitsoutputsatraditionalprogramlimiter,anda
newlyintroduced“DMax”limiter.
Program Limiter
Highperformancedigitallimitersareprovidedforeachoutputwithcontroloverattacktime,releasetimeand
thresholdparameters‐seepage29fordetails.Thislevelofcontrolallowstheusertobalancetherequired
subjectivequalityofthelimiteragainstthedriverprotectionrequirements.Itdoesalsomeanthatan
incorrectlysetlimitermaysoundawful!Inparti
cular,aswithalllimiters,usingtoofastanattackorrelease
timewillresultinexcessivelowfrequencydistortion.IntheDesign a Crossoversubmenuthereis
anoptionforautomaticlimitertimeconstants.Usethisoptionifyouareunsurehowtosettheti
me
constantsmanually.PROELrecommendtheuseoftheautomaticsetting.
InthismodethetimeconstantswillbeautomaticallysetfromtheHighPassfilterfrequencyaccordingtothe
tablebelow.
Thetimeconstantsaresetbythehighpassfilterfrequencyforthatchannel.

instantaneouslytothesignal.Oneofthemostsignificantadvantagesofdigitalsignalprocessingover
analogueistheabilitytodelaytheaudiosignalpreciselyandwithoutextensivecomplexhardware.Theentire
domainofdigitalsignalpr
ocessingisbasedaroundthecombinationofdelaying,multiplying,andaccumulating
numbers(representingsamplesofaudio)toimplementallthefiltersanddynamicsprocessingwehavecome
toexpecttoday.
Inthecaseofdynamicsprocessing,beingabletodelayasignalallowstheprocessormoduletodelaythemain
signalinrelationtothesidechain(thesignalbe
ingmonitoredrelativetothethreshold),sothatitcan
compensateforpeakspriortothearrivalofthemainsignal.
