TheDSO480 unitshavetwolevelsofdynamicprotectiononitsoutputs–atraditionalprogramlimiter,anda
newlyintroduced“D‐Max”limiter.
Program Limiter
Highperformancedigitallimitersareprovidedforeachoutputwithcontroloverattacktime,releasetimeand
thresholdparameters‐seepage29fordetails.Thislevelofcontrolallowstheusertobalancetherequired
subjectivequalityofthelimiteragainstthedriverprotectionrequirements.Itdoesalsomeanthatan
incorrectlysetlimitermaysoundawful!Inparti
cular,aswithalllimiters,usingtoofastanattackorrelease
timewillresultinexcessivelowfrequencydistortion.IntheDesign a Crossoversub‐menuthereis
anoptionforautomaticlimitertimeconstants.Usethisoptionifyouareunsurehowtosettheti
me
constantsmanually.PROELrecommendtheuseoftheautomaticsetting.
InthismodethetimeconstantswillbeautomaticallysetfromtheHigh‐Passfilterfrequencyaccordingtothe
tablebelow.
Thetimeconstantsaresetbythehighpassfilterfrequencyforthatchannel.

instantaneouslytothesignal.Oneofthemostsignificantadvantagesofdigitalsignalprocessingover
analogueistheabilitytodelaytheaudiosignalpreciselyandwithoutextensivecomplexhardware.Theentire
domainofdigitalsignalpr
ocessingisbasedaroundthecombinationofdelaying,multiplying,andaccumulating
numbers(representingsamplesofaudio)toimplementallthefiltersanddynamicsprocessingwehavecome
toexpecttoday.
Inthecaseofdynamicsprocessing,beingabletodelayasignalallowstheprocessormoduletodelaythemain
signalinrelationtothesidechain(thesignalbe
ingmonitoredrelativetothethreshold),sothatitcan
compensateforpeakspriortothearrivalofthemainsignal.
