This unit is part of the Precor Strength line of quality strength training machines, which let you target specific muscle groups to achieve better muscle tone and overall body conditioning. To maximize your use of the equipment, please study this guide thoroughly. Unpacking the Equipment The S3.23 is carefully tested and inspected before shipment.
S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide 2 Preparations Installation Requirements Assembly Tips Follow these installation requirements when assembling the unit: • • Fill out and mail the warranty registration card. • Set up the S3.23 on a solid, flat surface. A smooth, flat surface under the unit helps keep it level. CAUTION: To set up this unit, you will need assistance. Do not attempt assembly by yourself. • You must review and follow the instructions in this guide.
S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide 3 Assembly Instructions Assembly of the S3.23 takes professional installers about 1 hour to complete. If this is the first time you have assembled this type of equipment, plan on significantly more time. Professional installers are highly recommended! However, if you acquire the appropriate tools, obtain assistance, and follow the assembly steps sequentially, the process will take time, but is fairly easy. CAUTION: Obtain assistance! Do not attempt to assemble the S3.
S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide Open Box 1 Chin-up Bar Use wire tie cutters to open the boxes. In this section, you will assemble the Main Structure of the S3.23. The illustration shows how the Main Structure will look when you have completed its assembly.
S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide 1. Assemble Main Structure Rear view A. Lift and stabilize the two Main Uprights. C B. Have an assistant hold the Main Uprights steady while you attach the Mid Cross Brace using four 2¹⁄₂-inch hex head bolts eight washers four locknuts 4 - ³⁄₄" bolts 4 - washers Mid Cross Brace Note: Alternately finger tighten all four fasteners while adjusting the alignment of the Main Uprights. S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide 2. Assemble Weight Stack Note: Perform the following steps on each Main Upright. Complete the assembly steps for one side before moving the other Main Upright. Main Upright A. Have your assistant lift the Top Cap Weight to remove cable tension. B. Use a hex key to remove the two buttonhead screws and two washers that secure the Guide Rod Bracket. C C. Remove the Guide Rod Bracket and Bumpers.
S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide D. Have your assistant slide the Top Weight Assembly and Selector Stem off the Guide Rods. Ask your assistant to hold the Top Weight Assembly away from the Guide Rods while you install the weights. Guide Rod Bracket and Bumpers E. Add the ten 10-lb weights and the ten shorterlength 5-lb weights. Note that the curve on the weight plate faces inside. Hold your finger over the plastic bushing in each weight to prevent the bushing from popping out.
S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide F. Hold the Guide Rods while your assistance replaces the Selector Stem and Top Weight Assembly. G Important: During reassembly, do not lower the Guide Rod Bracket more than three inches along the Guide Rods. Have your assistant hold the Guide Rods firmly because they can be pulled out of the Base Bumpers. It is difficult to replace the Guide Rods in an assembled Weight Stack.
S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide J. Remove the Weight Pin and gently lower the Top Cap Weight onto the Weight Stack. K. Remove the slack in the cable. Use two ⁹⁄₁₆-inch wrenches to loosen the fastener that holds the Cam Washer. Rotate the Cam Washer to remove any slack in the cable. Check the Top Cap Weight to make sure it remains well-seated on the Weight Stack and then wrench tighten the Cam Washer fasteners. Top Cap Weight L. Peel the Weight Label off the Weight Label Strip. S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide 3. Attach Shrouds Shroud Two Shrouds are attached to each Main Upright. Complete the assembly steps for one side before moving the other Main Upright. B Important: Handle the Shroud with care. The acrylic Shrouds require special handling as they are easily scratched. For proper care and maintenance, refer to the Adjustments and Maintenance section in this guide. C 6 - 1³⁄₄" Socket head screws per Shroud 6- spacers per Shroud A.
S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide 4. Attach Handles and Accessories A 1 - 5mm Socket head screw on each Pulley Assembly A. Install a Handle on each Pulley Assembly using one 5mm Socket head screw Wrench tighten with a hex key. Pulley Assembly Note: To adjust the outside pulley location, lift the Handle and slide it to the desired location. B. Attach the two Soft Handles or a Soft Ankle Strap to the end of the cable using a Spring Clip. B Install the Soft Handle or Soft Ankle Strap.
S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide 5. Move the Pulley Assemblies A. To raise the Pulley Assembly, simply push the Handle up along the track. The Pulley Assembly automatically locks into position. Pulley Assembly Handle To lower the Pulley Assembly, lift the Handle up so it disengages from the track and then lower the Pulley Assembly. Let go of the Handle to lock the Pulley Assembly into position. A To disengage the Pulley Assembly, lift the Handle and slide the assembly along its track. 1 Step 5.
S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide 4 A slack cable Pulley Adjustments and Maintenance When the S3.23 is completely assembled, you need to check the cables for proper tension. Obvious signs that cable problems exist include: Weight pin ✔ Top Cap Weight does not rest squarely on the top weight of the Weight Stack. Top Cap Weight ✔ Cable rubs the inside edges of the pulleys. ✔ Excess slack exists in the cable. ✔ Weight Pin cannot be easily inserted in or removed from each hole in the Weight Stack.
S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide 1. Cable Adjustments 2. Selector Stem Adjustments The Cam Washer ensures easy cable adjustments. A. To remove the slack in the cable. Use two ⁹⁄₁₆-inch wrenches to loosen the fastener that holds the Cam Washer. If the Selector Stem consistently strikes the inside of the weight stack or it is misaligned with the Weight Stack hole, you can re-center the Selector Stem by taking the following steps: B. Rotate the Cam Washer so that the slack is removed. A.
S3.23 Assembly and Maintenance Guide 3. Maintenance Inspection Inspect the unit daily. Guide Rods A Apply one tube of lubricant to each Guide Rod. B. Lubricate the Guide Rods every six months. Obtain the proper lubricant from your dealer. CAUTION: The lubricant can stain clothes. Wear proper attire when lubricating the Guide Rods.
