Maintenance
Maintaining Air Filter(s)
Proceed as follows to maintain air filter(s):
1. Remove air cleaner cover and air filter(s). Inspect
for dirt or debris.
2. Clean air filter(s):
For paper air filters: Wear appropriate PPE,
including safety goggles, dust mask/respirator, and
heavy-duty work gloves, and work in a well-venti-
lated area. Use pressurized air to blow dust out of
the air filter. Replace air filter if this does not clean
the air filter.
For foam air filters: Wash air filter in warm water
and mild detergent several times and rinse.
Squeeze out excess water and allow it to dry com-
pletely. Do not wring. Briefly soak air filter in light-
weight oil, then squeeze out excess oil.
3. Install cleaned air filter(s). Secure air cleaner cover
before use.
Maintaining Chipper Blades
The chipper knife can remain acceptably sharp for over
40 hours, depending on the material being chipped.
Replace or sharpen the chipper knife when there is a
noticeable decrease in performance.
1. Remove chipper chute from chipper/shredder to
access chipper blades.
2. Rotate rotor assembly with a stick so chipper
blades can be inspected for wear or damage.
3. If necessary, have chipper blades sharpened or
replaced by an IASD.
Maintaining Shredder Hammers
Proceed as follows to inspect shredder hammers:
1. See Figure 2-1. Remove circular access panel (C)
on back of rotor housing.
2. Inspect rectangular hammers and L-hammers on
the cutting edges for wear or damage.
3. If necessary, have an IASD replace shredding
hammers.
