Operation
Using the Discharge Bag
NOTE: An optional discharge bag is provided with the
unit.
1. Install the open end of the collection bag over rub-
ber discharge deflector and hook the collection bag
onto metal housing tabs above and below the dis-
charge deflector.
2. Squeeze rope lock and pull rope to cinch collection
bag tightly around the housing tabs then release
the rope lock.
NOTE: Empty collection bag before it is completely full.
Cleaning Clogged Shredder
1. Shut down unit and remove spark plug cap from
spark plug. Allow engine to cool completely.
2. Remove any material in the chipper chute and
shredder hopper with a wooden stick.
3. Inspect discharge opening for clogs. Clear clogs
with a stick.
4. Start unit and allow any remaining material to dis-
charge.
5. Clog may be near shredder housing inlet if shred-
ding wet/green materials. Shred a wood stick of up
to 1 in (2.54 cm) in diameter to clear the clogged
wet material.
6. If the clog does not clear repeat the above process.
7. Verify cutting chamber is clear before trying to pro-
cess more material.
Storing the Unit
Short-term Storage
NOTE: Short-term storage should be completed when
unit will be idle for less than 20 days.
Proceed as follows to prepare unit for short-term storage:
1. Remove spark plug cap from spark plug.
2. Allow engine to cool completely.
3. See Figure 2-1. Remove lock nuts and washers
from access panel (C).
4. Clear all debris from main housing and discharge
port.
5. Install access panel and secure in place with wash-
ers and lock nuts.
6. Store chipper/shredder in a dry, indoor location,
away from children or pets.
Long-term Storage
NOTE: Long-term storage should be completed when
unit will be idle for longer than 20 days.
Proceed as follows to prepare unit for long-term storage:
1. Clean unit of debris as described in Short-term
Storage.
2. Clean engine with dry cloth. DO NOT use water.
3. Fill fuel tank with gasoline that has been treated
with a fuel stabilizer additive. Follow fuel stabilizer
manufacturer’s recommendations for use. See
Adding Fuel.
4. Change engine oil. See Changing Engine Oil.
5. Clean area surrounding spark plug. Remove spark
plug and add one tablespoon engine oil into cylin-
der through spark plug hole.
6. Install spark plug. Do not connect spark plug
cap.
7. Pull starter handle to distribute oil in cylinder. Stop
when resistance is felt (piston starts the compres-
sion stroke).
8. Cover unit and store in a dry, level, well-ventilated
area out of reach of children. Storage area should
be free from ignition sources, such as water heat-
ers, clothes dryers, and furnaces.
NOTE: Start engine every 3 months and run for 15–20
minutes during long-term storage.
Return to Service After Storage
Inspect fuel before initial startup. Untreated fuel deterio-
rates quickly. Drain fuel tank and fill with fresh fuel if
untreated fuel has been sitting for a month, or if treated
fuel has been sitting beyond the fuel stabilizer’s recom-
mended time period, or if engine does not start.

WARNING
Equipment damage. Shut down unit immediately if
material is jammed. Failure to do so could result in
engine or equipment damage.

Personal injury. Before performing any maintenance procedure
or inspection, stop the engine, and allow all parts to cool.
Disconnect spark plug wire and keep spark plug wire away
from spark plug. Failure to do so could result in serious injury.
