Inspect fuel system /
check for leaks
Inspect the fuel system and check for leaks on a regular basis.
1) Inspect the entire fuel system. Look for: signs of leaks or deterioration,
chafed or spongy fuel hose, loose connections, loose or missing fuel hose
clamps, damaged gasoline tank, or defective gasoline shut-off valve.
Clean & inspect
spark arrester
Clean and inspect the spark arrester muffler
If the engine is equipped with a spark arrester muffler, clean and inspect it
regularly. Replace if damaged.

Remove the screws 1 and pull outward on the end cover 2.

Loosen the securing bolt 3 to remove the muffler cap 4, the muffler screen,
and the spark arrester 5.

Clean the muffler screen and spark arrester. Replace if damaged.
NOTE: When cleaning, use a wire brush lightly to avoid
damaging or scratching muffler screen and spark arrester.
