Introduction General Information Installation This section provides detailed installation and setup instructions for the Posey Bed on the Joerns Bed model number 2003DC #B684DC modified for the Posey Bed. The installation steps must be followed correctly to ensure proper operation and service. Read these Assembly Instructions carefully before attempting to assemble the bed. Follow all instructions carefully. Gather assembly tools not included in the boxes.
Bed Assembly Unpacking the Parts ✔ Confirm that all parts have been included with the bed. If any items are missing or damaged, please contact Posey Technical Service at 1.800.447.6739. Bed Assembly Caster Leg Frame Assembly Materials: • Hardware Packet C • Parts J & K • 9/16” wrench 3. Press firmly to seat the caster leg frame (Part J) completely down into the wheel receiver (Fig. 2-C). J NOTE: Bed assembly should be done near an appropriate AC electrical outlet to assist with assembly. 1. Lay the bed frame (Part P) on the floor, upside down (Fig. 2-A). Bed Assembly 7. Place a lock washer on a 1” bolt (Hardware Packet C) and insert it into a square plug with channel fitting (Fig. 2-E). 9. Tighten with a 9/16” wrench (Fig. 2-G). Do not over tighten. Bed Assembly Transfer Brake Assembly Materials: • Hardware Packet D • Part O (4) • 7/16” wrench (2) 4. Use a 7/16” wrench to tighten both bolts (Fig. 3-D). NOTE: Two 7/16” wrenches are needed: One to hold the bolt, and the other to hold the nut. Do NOT over tighten. 1. Align the top and bottom holes on the Transfer Brake (Part O) with the two holes on the bed frame. NOTE: Make sure the holes in the brake are facing the holes in the bed frame (Fig. 3-A). Bed Assembly Frame Assembly Materials: • Hardware Packet B • Part H-I, M-N • Clamps (4) • 7/16” wrench NOTE: The frame assembly consists of distinct left and right posts for both the head and foot of the bed frame. Each post is labeled with a letter for easy assembly. Reference the Posey Bed frame location to assist with assembly (Fig. 4-A) Frame assembly requires two people to provide stability and to help prevent injury.

Bed Assembly Short Rail Assembly Materials: • Hardware Packet A • Part L (2) • 9/16” wrench Long Rail Assembly Materials: • Hardware Packet A • Part G (2) • 9/16” wrench This section requires two people. 1. Hold and align one of the short rails (Part L) between the left and right head posts (Parts H & I). NOTE: Make sure the holes on the posts face inward on both sides of the frame (Fig. 5-A). This section requires two people. 1.
Bed Assembly 4. Repeat on the other side of the rail. 5. Repeat with the second long rail between the right head and right foot posts (Parts I & N). 6. Gently hand shake each vertical post and top rails to ensure the bolts are securely fastened.
Bed Assembly Foam Pad Assembly 4. Repeat with the other long foam pad on the other side (Fig. 6-B). Materials: • Parts E (2), F (8) 1. Open the slot on a short foam pad (Part E) and wrap around the short rail at either the head or foot or the bed (Fig. 6-A). NOTE: Make sure that the slot faces outward from the bed frame. 5. Open the slot on a long foam pad (Part F) and wrap around on any of the vertical leg posts (Fig. 6-C). Make sure that the slot faces outward from the bed frame. 2.
Bed Assembly Canopy Installation 5. Pull the canopy material together and zip only half-way up (Fig. 7-D). Materials: • Part R (1) • Assembled Bed Frame NOTE: Zipping half-way assists with the installation of the top portion of the canopy. When zipping the canopy, make sure the zipper pins are completely seated. Failure to do this will prevent the zipper from closing securely, which may lead to unassisted bed exit and potential patient injury.
Bed Assembly Canopy Head End Flap Installation 1. Locate the Canopy Head End Flap at the head of the bed (Fig. 8-A). 2. Open the hook and loop and wrap around the metal end of the head of the bed (Fig. 8-B). Canopy Head End Flap Fig. 8-A 3. Secure the hook and loop (Fig. 8-B). Fig.
Bed Assembly Mattress Installation 4. Attach the canopy to the bed frame by securing both bed straps located in the middle of the long sides of the bed. Materials: • Part Q (1) • Assembled Bed Frame with Canopy If not using the Posey Bed 8070 mattress, a mattress that measures 6” x 35” x 80” (15 x 89 x 203 cm) must ONLY be used. Any other size mattress may result in patient injury or death. 1. Completely unzip the mattress compartment.
Bed Assembly Power Cord Attachment NOTE: If not already done, retrieve the power cord attachment taped to the underside of the bed. 4. Secure power cord with the power cord strap located at the head of the bed (Figs. 10-C, 10-D, & 10-E). 1. Attach the bed control to the canopy. 2. Bed Assembly Assembly Check 1. The bed assembly is completed (Fig. 11-A). 2. Store all Posey Bed instructional material in the instruction storage pocket at the foot of the bed (Fig. 11-B).
