Quick start Guide

Basic Menu: /MENU B
Contact Time: /MENU B A
Length of time PORTs remain contacted upon trigger. Use for camera bulb
mode, controlled continuous drive burst, flash recycle lockout, or other
effects. Only for LOCAL or receive units. Contact time is not transmitted.
Beeper Setting: /MENU B B
Adjusts MultiMAX beep settings. Use A, B, C or D to set.
C: Beep on Error/ZeroA: All B: Beep on Trigger D: Disable
Contrast Setting: /MENU B C
Use ▲▼ to adjust display contrast. Press /MENU to save setting.
Counter Setting: /MENU C
Use A, B, C or D to select. /MENU C B (Count DOWN + RESET)
will prompt for number of triggers before warning beep. Use for end-of-
roll, approximate card full, or other reminders.
Mode / Reset
Go Advanced/Go Normal: /MENU D
Toggles between advanced mode and normal radio triggering mode. Use
for quick return to basic operation from advanced modes, and vice versa.
Reset: /MENU B D
Resets unit to factory defaults. Advanced functions are cleared and unit is set for
Channel 17. Unit can also be reset by holding C while turning MultiMAX on.
ADVANCED FUNCTIONS
Transmit Delay Menu: /MENU A A
Remotes + PORT 2: /MENU A A A
(see Fig. 1)
Delays trigger to all remote units and local PORT 2. On main screen, small D
below
indicates PORT 2 (LOCAL) will be delayed. Use for controlling flash
trigger timing in long exposures, rear curtain sync fine-tuning and other effects.
Remotes Only: /MENU A A B (see Fig. 1)
Delays trigger to remote units only. Local Port 2 triggers immediately.
Use for delaying remote flash to not affect LOCAL flash metering or
other effects.
Confirmation
On any Channel, Status Light blinks in sync with every trigger and unit beeps.
On Channels 17 – 32, automatic radio trigger confirmation for selected zones
is displayed as normal letter A. If triggering was not confirmed, reverse letter
is displayed
. Flash confirmation requires special order cable.
On Channels 1 – 16, radio trigger confirmation is not performed.
Multiple Receivers
Unlimited remote flash units or cameras can be triggered simultaneously.
Set all MultiMAX units (set for RECEIVE) to same channel as MultiMAX
(set for TRANSMIT).
On Channels 17 – 32, set each Receiver to Zone letter A, B, C or D as
selected on Transmitter. Confirmation does not function when using multiple
Receivers set for same zone.
Backlight
Press to turn on backlight. Backlight turns off automatically.
Keypad Lock
Press and hold for 3 seconds. All keys are locked and KEYPAD LOCKED
is displayed. Only TEST and are active. Hold again for 3 seconds to
deactivate keypad lock.
Relay Mode
Triggers remote camera which then triggers remote flash in sync. Set remote
flash and relay unit TRANSMIT mode to same Channel. Set trigger unit and
relay unit RECEIVE mode to same Channel (different than flash channel).
Press L to enable Relay Mode. RLY XX (XX = flash unit Channel) is displayed.
Slide relay unit (set for RECEIVE) onto camera shoe. Connect camera remote
cable to PORT 2. Press TEST on trigger unit to begin relay sequence.
MENUS
Changing Settings / Using Menus
Press /MENU to enter main menu.
Use ▲▼ to highlight selection
and press /MENU to select.
Press A, B, C or D
to select directly.

Adjusting Numbers
Use A, B, C or D, or L and ▲▼ for numeric entry. Press /MENU to
accept settings (long beep confirms settings). Press (Backlight) to exit
without accepting settings. Accepted settings are saved during power off.
Most numeric entry screens are usable for live triggering and are dynamic –
changes made are available immediately without pressing /MENU, and
triggering with TEST or from camera sync will use displayed settings. Use
for fast fine adjustments.
BASIC OPERATION
All equipment should be turned OFF when making
connections. Unwanted triggering may occur.
Basic Connections
Camera Sync:
Slide MultiMAX into
camera hot shoe and
tighten locking ring.
Use PC Sync Cable to
connect MultiMAX PORT 1
to camera’s PC terminal.

Remote Flash: Use Flash Sync Cable to connect MultiMAX PORT 2 to flash
unit’s sync terminal.
Remote Camera: Use Remote Cable to connect MultiMAX PORT 1 to
camera’s remote terminal.
Power On/Off
Transmitter: Set power switch to TRANSMIT on MultiMAX. TRANSMIT
MODE and will be displayed.
Receiver: Set power switch to RECEIVE on MultiMAX. RECEIVE MODE and
will be displayed.
Channel Selection
Transmitter: Set channel using ▲▼. Channel number is located in upper
right of display (CH:17). Channels 1 – 16 (Classic Channels) are for standard
remote triggering. Channels 17 – 32 are for Selective Quad Triggering. Select
zones to trigger using A, B, C or D.
Receiver: Set channel using ▲▼ to match Transmitter channel. If Quad
triggering channels 17 – 32 are used, select proper zone: A, B, C or D.
Classic Channels (1 16)
(Compatible with PocketWizard Plus/Plus II Models)
Channels 1 – 16 offer LOCAL/BOTH/REMOTE triggering. On MultiMAX (set
for TRANSMIT), press A to toggle R (REMOTE) On/Off. Press L to toggle L
(LOCAL) on or off. LOCAL and REMOTE cannot be toggled off at same time.
Selective Quad-Triggering
Channels 17 – 32 offer four triggering zones. Press A, B, C or D keys to
toggle on or off triggering zones.
Local Triggering
Connect flash unit to PORT 2 on MultiMAX (set for TRANSMIT). Press L to
toggle L (LOCAL) on or off. Use for near/on-camera flash.
Test Button
Press TEST on MultiMAX (set for TRANSMIT) and release. Visually
confirm remote flash or remote camera triggered.
