1. Package Contents Thank you for purchasing PLANET 10/100/1000Mbps 802.3at PoE+. Wireless AP Managed Switch Model No. PoE 10G SFP+ LCD WS-1032P 8 ports 2 ports No WS-2864PVR 24 ports 4 ports Yes with The Wireless AP Managed Switch includes an AP Controller feature. The AP Controller mentioned in this Quick Installation Guide refers to the Wireless AP Managed Switch. Open the box of the AP Managed Switch and carefully unpack it.
2. Requirements zz Workstations running Windows 10/XP/2003/Vista/7/8/2008, MAC OS X or later, Linux, UNIX, or other platforms are compatible with TCP/IP protocols. zz Workstations are installed with Ethernet NIC (Network Interface Card) zz Serial Port Connection (Terminal) The above Workstations come with COM Port (DB9) or USB-to-RS232 converter. The above Workstations have been installed with terminal emulator, such as Tera Term, PuTTY or Hyper Terminal included in Windows XP/2003.
3. Starting Web Management The following shows how to start up the Web Management of the AP Managed Switch. Note the AP Managed Switch is configured through an Ethernet connection. Please make sure the manager PC must be set to the same IP subnet address. For example, the default IP address of the AP Managed Switch is 192.168.1.100, then the manager PC should be set to 192.168.1.X (where X is a number between 1 and 254, except 100), and the default subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.
Note It is recommended to use Google Chrome to access the AP Managed Switch. If the Web interface of the AP Managed Switch is not accessible, please turn off the anti-virus software or firewall and then try it again. 3. After entering the password, the main screen appears as Figure 3-3 shows. Figure 3-3 Web Main Screen The main menu on the top of the web page lets you access all the commands and statistics the AP Managed Switch provides.
The sub-menu on the left of the web page lets you access all the commands and statistics the AP Managed Switch provides. Please refer to the user’s manual for more details. 3.2 Function Icons The function icons on the upper-right corner of the web page lets you quickly execute major system commands that include “Refresh”, “Save Configuration”, “Help” and “Logout”.
4. Starting AP Management There are different models including indoor and outdoor AP series that can be managed by AP Managed Switch. Note Please regularly check PLANET website for the latest managed AP compatibility list. For the AP models that do not support DHCP IP, please configure them to use a different static IP before connecting them to the same managed network. If you prefer to use DHCP IP for the AP models that support DHCP IP, please ensure the DHCP server exists in the managed network.
Step 2. Go to the “AP Search” page and then click “Search” to discover the managed AP. Step 3. In the “Select Device” field, check the AP and then click “Apply”. Figure 4-3 AP Search Step 4. Then, you can go to the “AP Management” page to configure the general setting and designate the pre-defined profiles to the managed AP without logging on to the AP’s web page.
5. Terminal Setup To configure the system, connect a serial cable to a COM port on a PC or notebook computer and to the RJ45 type of the console port of the AP Controller. Run terminal program “Tera Term” on the OS. 2.
5.1 Logging on to the Console Once the terminal is connected to the device, power on the AP Managed Switch and the terminal will display “running testing procedures”. Then, the following message asks to log in user name and password. The factory default user name and password are shown as follows, and the login screen in Figure 5-3 appears. Username: admin Password: admin Figure 5-3 Console Login Screen The user can now enter commands to manage the AP Managed Switch.
5.2 Configuring IP Address The AP Managed Switch is shipped with default IP address shown below. IP Address: 192.168.1.100 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 To check the current IP address or modify a new IP address for the AP Managed Switch, please use the procedure as follows: Showing the current IP Address 1. At the “#” prompt, enter “show ip interface brief”. 2. The screen displays the current IP address as shown in Figure 5-4.
Configuring IP Address 3. At the “#” prompt, enter the following command and press as shown in Figure 5-5. WS-1032P# configure terminal WS-1032P(config)# interface vlan 1 WS-1032P(config-if-vlan)# ip address 192.168.1.101 255.255.255.0 The previous command would apply the following settings for the AP Managed Switch. IP Address: 192.168.1.101 Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0 Figure 5-5 IP Address Screen 4. Repeat Step 1 to check if the IP address is changed.
Storing current configuration 5. At the “#” prompt, enter the following command and press . # copy running-config startup-config Figure 5-6 Saving Current Configuration If the IP is successfully configured, the AP Managed Switch will apply the new IP address setting immediately. You can access the Web interface of the AP Managed Switch through the new IP address.
6. Recovering Back to Default Configuration IP Address has been changed or admin password has been forgotten – To reset the IP address to the default IP Address “192.168.1.100” or reset the login password to default value, press the hardware-based reset button on the front panel for about 10 seconds. After the device is rebooted, you can log in the management Web interface within the same subnet of 192.168.1.xx. 2 1G/2.
