MAILING SYSTEM COMPONENTS E N G L I S H F R A N C A I S Your mailing system is made up of two separate units: a Pitney Bowes E500 Mailing Machine and Postage Meter. Every country has its own regulations regarding the use of Postage Meters.

Set-Up Mise en route Einstellung Puesta en marcha E N G L I S H 3.1 Installing the Meter - Turn the key to the VERTICAL (unlocked) position. - Move the Operate Lever to the FRONT (remove) position. - Holding the meter by the carrying handle, lower the meter onto the right hand side of the E500, letting the meter settle down over the locating pins. Refer to your Postage Meter Operating Guide for details on meter operation.

The green power light on the control panel should light. 4.
Operation Fonctionnement Betrieb Funcionamiento E N G L I S H 4.1 Printing Postage and Sealing - Select the postage required. - Check to make sure that the "Print Mode" light ( ) is lit and that there is water in the reservoir. - Place the envelope, face up, against the rear wall on the Lower Deck and push gently to the right.

Release the envelope as soon as the machine “takes it” out of your hand. - The machine will seal and print postage onto your envelope, then eject it into the stacker. Be careful not to touch the mail as it is exiting from the machine. - To complete sealing the envelope, apply pressure to the flap after removing the envelope from the stacker.
Operation Fonctionnement Betrieb Funcionamiento 4.2 Printing Postage Without Sealing - Select the postage required. - Check the E500 Control Panel to make sure the “Print Mode” light ( ) is lit. - Place the envelope, face up, against the rear wall on the Upper Deck and push gently to the right. - The machine will sense that you have inserted an envelope and will turn on. Release the envelope as soon as the machine “takes it” out of your hand.
Operation Fonctionnement Betrieb Funcionamiento E N G L I S H 4.3 Quick Feeding when Printing Postage without Sealing - Select the postage required. - Check to make sure the “Print Mode” light ( ) is lit. - Overlap each envelope then place them, face up, against the rear wall on the Upper Deck. - Gently feed envelopes, one at a time, into the machine to the right, starting with the envelope on top of the stack. - The machine will print postage onto your envelope and then eject it into the stacker.
Operation Fonctionnement Betrieb Funcionamiento E N G L I S H 4.4 Sealing Only without Printing Postage - Push the "NO PRINT" button ( ) on the control panel. - Check to make sure there is sufficient water in the reservoir. - Place the envelope against the rear wall on the Lower Deck and push gently to the right. Gently pulling on the envelope to make sure that the flap is under the blade will guarantee that all the envelopes are sealed, otherwise flaps must be checked for proper sealing before mailing.

Some envelopes, such as square flapped envelopes will require the operator to place the flap under the blade to ensure proper moistening. - The machine will sense that you have inserted an envelope and will turn on. Release the envelope as soon as the machine “takes it” out of your hand. - The machine will seal the envelope then eject it into the stacker.
Operation Fonctionnement Betrieb Funcionnamiento E N G L I S H 5. FEEDING A TAPE STRIP Tape strips must be used on envelopes that are thicker than 1/4 inch (6mm) and on packages. Follow the steps below to print a tape strip. - Select the amount of postage. - Insert a tape strip into the Surefeed™ Tape Dispenser, printing side up, and push gently to the right until the machine turns on and takes the tape strip from you.
Reference Renseignements Généraux Referenz Referencia E N G L I S H 6. REFILLING THE WATER RESERVOIR To remove the reservoir for refilling, press down on the reservoir and pull out to the left. Fill the reservoir with Pitney Bowes EZ Seal ® solution or water. To replace, reverse the procedure. 7. REPLACING THE INK CARTRIDGE When printed impressions are faint, the ink cartridge requires replacement: - Remove the meter from the E500. - Remove the old ink cartridge by pulling to the right and up.

ADJUSTING THE LETTER EJECTOR ROLLERS If envelopes of standard thickness are not being ejected into the stacker tray, the Letter Ejector Rollers may require adjustment. - Loosen the knobs on the right side of the postage meter. - Move the knobs downwards until the steel rollers beneath the postage meter just touch the rubber rollers of the E500. - Retighten the knobs on the postage meter. Connect the other end of the cord to a suitable power outlet. 10. USING THE KEY AND OPERATE LEVER The key is used to lock or unlock the operate lever in any one of three positions: the Remove Postion, the Secured Position and the Operate Position. Remove Position - Operate lever is moved to the front position. Putting the key in the vertical position (up and down) will unlock the Operate Lever and allow you to move it into another position. The key cannot be removed when in the unlock position. Used when removing or installing the postage meter on the E500.

TROUBLESHOOTING Machine Does Not Accept Mail - Check whether power cord is plugged into wall outlet and into machine (See Section 9, page 21). - Be sure power switch on both mailing machine and meter are turned on (See Section 3.3, page 11). Power Light Blinking, Check Mailpiece light is lit - Press the Print button then refeed the envelope, making sure that it is against the rear wall. (See Section 4.2, page 14).

The mail piece will be fed through the mail path by the machine. If the print light is not lit, press the print button on the control panel then refeed the envelope or tape. See section 3.3, page 11; page 4.1 page 12 -Turn the E500 and meter off. See section 3.1, page 9 - Remove the meter to clear any torn mail jammed in the machine. See Section 3.
