16.2 AP Management
Access Point Management
Enable
The WLAN Controller for managing Pepwave APs can be enabled by this option.
When this option is enabled, the WLAN Controller will wait for management
connections originating from APs over the LAN on TCP and UDP port 11753. It will
also wait for captive portal connections on TCP port 443. An extended DHCP option
"CAPWAP Access Controller addresses" (field 138) will be added to the DHCP
server. A local DNS record "wlancontroller" will added to the local DNS proxy.
Manage Remote
AP
The WLAN controller supports remote management of Pepwave APs. When this
option is enabled, the WLAN controller will wait for management connections
originating from remote APs over the WAN on TCP and UDP port 11753. It will also
wait for captive portal connections on TCP port 443.
The DHCP server and/or local DNS server of the remote AP’s network should be
configured as follows:
1. Define an extended DHCP option "CAPWAP Access Controller addresses"
(field 138) in the DHCP server, where the values are the WLAN controller's
public IP addresses; and/or
2. Create a local DNS record for "wlancontroller." with a value corresponding
to the WLAN controller's public IP address.
Access Point to
be Managed
Access Point devices managed will be defined in this option. If Any is selected, the
WLAN controller will manage any AP that reports to it. If Access points listed
below is selected, only APs with a serial number listed in the text box will be
managed.
