T S Safety instructions and safety measures The manufacturer cannot be held responsible for any damage which is incurred by not using the video recorder in compliance with the national guarantee conditions or safety instruction. First check if your supply voltage is the same as that written on the type plate on the rear of your video recorder. Danger high voltage in this appliance! Do not open! The video recorder does not contain any parts that can be repaired by the user.

Whenever you have any problems while operating the video recorder, you can simply interrupt any function and start again. You can practice using the video recorder without worrying. No matter which buttons you press, you won't damage the video recorder.

PLAYING A RECORDED CASSETTE ENGLISH In Chapter 2 you connected your TV set to the video recorder, thus enabling you to play a cassette. i you want to record something immediately, read Chapters 4 and 5. O Switch on the TV set. Many modern TV sets automatically switch over to the programmer number for the video recorder when a cassette is being played. However, this functions only if you have used an AV-Euro cable to cornet the video recorder to your TV set.

T — Tape position. How do | know where | am on the tape ? It is handy to know for how long a cassette has been playing or how much time remains on the tape. When you insert a cassette into the video recorder and select one of the tape transport functions (e.g. ‘PLAYBACK'), the tape’s length is automatically measured. The tape’s length (for example, E 180) appears in the video recorder’s display.

P — How do I find a particular position on the tape ? Sometimes you may have recorded two or even more TV programmed on one cassette. In this case, it is worthwhile making & note of the tape position at which the recordings start and end. So that you do not have to search for a long time, your video recorder offers you two methods for automatic searching: "GO TO" and "VISIT, Searching for a tape position: @ With button [SELECT, select the desired display possibility (elapsed playing time or remaining time).
S W UNDER INTRO SCAN 26 o The VHS Index Search System The video recorder writes VIZ code marks on the tape every time the record button is pressed. Using the button you can search for these VIZ code marks on the tape. You cannot use the VIZ function with recordings made on another video recorder that does not have the VIZ function. Intro-scan: This VIZ function provides you with a survey of all the TV programmed receded on the tape. @ Press button (TNBEX"]. "INDEX -* appears in the display.
T — VIZ search: Select this function if you are looking for a particular VIZ code mark. @ First press button {on the remote control) and then button to select the previous code mark, or button to select the following one. If you want to search for subsequent code marks, press button =71 or as often as required. O Select the function that is to follow after the code mark is found (e.g. "PLAYBACK'). When the code mark is found, the video recorder then begins with the function you selected.
R T T UNDER WRITE. 102 CLEAR Indention 28 Setting or erasing VIZ code marks manually: To find certain positions on the tape quickly, you can set and erase code marks by yourself. This only works with cassettes which are not protected against recording. I you want to set a code mark, proceed as follows: @ During playback, search for the position on the tape to be marked. @ At the right position, press button [WRITE"], This sets a code mark.
S Picture sharpness control You can adjust the picture sharpness in playback in seven steps. @ Press button [, O Press button (=1 or (5. Note: * Attention: The following adjustment is only necessary and useful in special cases, for example in case of stripes in the picture for cable TV systems. L Cable TV with special channel numbers If you possess cable TV equipment with special channel numbers, you must enter the channel numbers already defined for the special channels. Proceed as described in the section "Direct channel selection”, In step @, enter the channel numbers (e.g. channel "080" for special channel "S1°) according to the following table. Further information about the special channel numbers of your TV channels is available from your cable TV company.
5. HOW CAN | RECORD DIRECTLY ? / The easiest way of recording is to directly record a TV 3 (O%“ programmer that is currently being broadcast, And this is how it is done: © Insert a cassette. TODAY programming on the video recorder It is very easy to programmer a recording for TODAY. You only need to enter the programmer number and the start time. Please note that only one TODAY programming is possible per day. The recording will be made until the end of the loaded cassette. Note: * The tape speed (standard play or long play) can be selected before programming with button SPECIE ] on the remote control. * Make sure a cassette without recording protection is inserted.

7. ADDITIONAL RECORDING FEATURES ENGLISH Audio dubbing This function enables you to replace {dub) the sound track of & previously made recording with another sound recording. Only the normal {linear) sound track is changed. The stereo sound track and the video image remain unchanged. @ Press button 10 locate the position at which the audio dubbing is 1o start. Press button TOPMOST. The video recorder is now in the *STOP" position.
Note: *If you connect an audio mixer to the video recorder, you can mix the original whiff sound with the sound from externally connected sources. Remove the original whiff sound lead from the cinch sockets (back of the video recorder) and connect it to the audio mixer. Connect the audio mixer to the [T )R] cinch sockets {front of the video recorder).
Recording audio only This video recorder allows you to make "audit only” recordings. To do this, connect the video recorder to an audio system (sockets on the back of the video recorder), @ Insert a cassette. © Press button several times on the remote central, until "AUDIO ONLY” appears in the video recorder’s display. © Use the button or on the remote control to adjust the sound until the indicator *0 dB* comes on during the loudest passages. In order to get the best stereo sound quality you can record the picture from the TV channel and simultaneously record the stereo sound from the radio. To do this, connect the radio to the sockets Al NC] {back of the video recorder). @ Tune your radio and the video recorder to the desired programmer.
S — Synchronous editing {Synchrony-Edit) You can edit synchronously with a connection cable between an appropriately equipped camcorder and the video recorder. A specific connection cable is required which depends on the type of camcorder (see illustration). Both units are started at the right time by means of a synchronized pulse and a settable switch-on (per-roll) time. Tow different operating versions are possible. Switch off both units before you connect them.
o) o Depending on the cable set up you have chosen, there are two ways to start editing. Version 1 © Start the editing process with button [ &1 on the video recorder. 8. PARTICULAR FUNCTIONS AND EXTRAS ON YOUR VIDEO RECORDER Tune mode. Your video recorder as an extension of your TV set You can also use your video recorder as a TV receiver tuner. This is handy if your TV set does not have remote control or if it has fewer channel buttons than the number of channels it could actually receive. Proceed as follows: @ Switch on the TV set. Select the programmer number reserved for video playback. © Cross the menu button CURER ] on the remote control.

S E— Automatic switch-off If the video recorder is not operated for more than eight minutes during one of the following functions, the function is switched off. This protects your cassette and prevents unnecessary power consumption. if the video recorder is: in EJECT it switches off in STOP it switches off in STILL PICTURE it switches to PLAYBACK in PICTURE SEARCH it switches to PLAYBACK Child lock This function prevents the unauthorized operation of your video recorder. All button functions are blocked.
R —— ENGLISH VCR 1/VCR 2 switch-over This is an important function if vou have two video recorders which accept the same remote control code. You can quite easily change the remote control code for this video recorder and this remote control in order to prevent the unintentional operation of the wrong video recorder. @ Switch off the video recorder with button [STAR Now press button [INSTALL ], "ENGLISH" appears in the video recorder’s display. O Press button {press the [TODAY ] and By .

S —— Switching off the integrated modulator In the preceding section, we spoke of disturbances in TV reception. If the picture quality cannot be improved by the methods described, you can switch off the integrated modulator. However, this is only possible if the TV set and video recorder are connected by an AV-Euro cable. A cassette must not be in the video recorder. @ Press buttons T and on the video recorder simultaneously. The current position of the "MODULE ON" switch is indicated in the display.
