2. INSTALLATION: HOW DO | INSTALL THE VIDEO RECORDER? Connecting your video recorder The following sections provide detailed explanations to this overview.
How do | put the batteries into the remote control? © Remove the cover from the back of the remote control. © Insert the batteries as indicated into the battery compartment and close the cover, The remote control is now ready for operation. Each entry made on the remote control is confirmed by the symbol &, Note: * Do not use rechargeable batteries in this remote control.
Connecting to the supply @ Insert the fern ale plug of the mains cable into the mains socket 2] at the rear of the video recorder. Insert the plug at the other end of the mains cable into the wall socket. A few important notes for operation: * The video recorder should remain connected to the mains at all times to ensure that programmed intended for recording can be made and that the television works. The power consumption is very low. + No special button is required to switch on the video recorder.
Connecting to the TV set If your TV set does not have a Cart-socket (Eur-AV) , do not read here but continue in chapter 8 , “Particular Functions and Extras on your Video Recorder”. You will find further information in the section “Playback Using the Aerial Cable”, see page 54. If you have a TV set with a Cart socket (Euro-AV), please continue reading here. @ Insert one plug of the delivered Cart cable (Euro-AV) into the Cart socket {Eur-AV) on the back panel of your video recorder.
Connecting a decoder Some TV stations transmit encoded signals which you can only see with a purchased or hired decoder. You can connect such a decoder (describer} to this video recorder. @ Connect the decoder to the video recorder (socket [EXTERNAL Z )} using a Cart cable {Euro AV}, You will find a description of how to store TV channels with the decoder in Chapter 3, "Storing TV Channels”.
T — Selecting the display language on the video recorder and the picture format of your TV set Switch on the TV set and select the programmer number for the video recorder. © If a cassette is in the video recorder, press button [EJECT & | on the recorder. 3. STORING TV CHANNELS in order to be able to record TV programmed, you first have to store each TV channel (e.g. "BBC 17} in the video recorder, You can store channels. Your video recorder has its own receiver. Because of this, it can be used independently of the TV set. Automatic channel search The video recorder searches for all the available TV channels for you. Then it assigns the channels to memory.

Further information about the special channel numbers of your TV channels is available from your cable TV company.

4. PLAYING A RECORDED CASSETTE 22 In Chapter 2 you connected your TV set to the video recorder, thus enabling you to play a cassette. You will find that it is very simple to play back a cassette. Many modern TV sets automatically switch over to the programmer number for the video recorder when a cassette is being played. But this will only the video recorder is connected to a TV set with a Cart cable {Euro-AV).
Note: * When playing long-play recordings, the video recorder switches automatically over to this speed. The message “LP” appears in the display. Video playback is not in color for the "PICTURE SEARCH", “FREEZE-FRAME", “SLOW MOTION" and “SUPER-SLOW MOTION" functions. * The video recorder automatically cleans the video heads before each playback. This is how the excellent quality of the video playback is maintained.

Tape position. How do I know where | am on the tape? It is handy to know for how long a cassette has been playing. After insertion of a formed hour cassette info the video recorder and selection of a tape run function {'PLAYBACK”, for example}, the recorder automatically measures the tape length. The length of the tape appears briefly in the display on the video recorder ('CASSETTE E 180", for example). You must manually select and confirm the display for the length of non-formed hour cassettes (e.g.
28 © Using the button you can choose between the following three displays: elapsed playing time : display “U” “USED TIME” remaining playing time < display “L" “TIME LEFT” counter 1 tape position display {hours/minutes} The displays can be read during fast forwarding, rewinding, recording, playback or stop. If you want to reset the tape position counter display select the counter display with the button and press button [CLEAR 1. The counter display is switched off during fast forwarding and rewinding.
A —— The VHS Index Search System A VIZ mark is written onto the tape by the video recorder with each recording. You can search for each of these VIZ marks on the tape. You cannot use the VIZ function for recordings made by video recorders without VIZ capability. VIZ search: Select this function to search for a specific VIZ mark. Switch on the video recorder with the button. © Press the button TS PREVIOUS 7] or [NEXT¥® ] on the remote control. The tape is wound to the previous or the next VIZ mark.
SR Intro-scan: This VIZ function gives you an overview of all the TV programmed recorded on the tape. Switch on the video recorder with the button. Press the buttons and TF'? i:.’ -t L-'L the remote control simultaneously. The message “INTRO SCAN" appears in the display on the video recorder. The tape is wound to the next VIZ mark, played back for 10 seconds, then wound to the next VIZ mark and played back for 10 seconds, etc.
A — Picture sharpness control You can adjust the picture sharpness in playback in seven steps. @ Press button [FLAY ], @ Press button [¥1 or CAJ. The current setting appears in the display on the video recorder. The zero “0" shows the middle position. If you press button or [A] within 5 seconds, you change the current setting: from “+3" to "-3" {+3is the maximum picture sharpness).
5. HOW CAN | RECORD DIRECTLY? The easiest way of recording is to directly record a TV programmer that is currently being broadcast. And this is how it is done: @ Insert a cassette, The video recorder switches on automatically. Otherwise, you can also switch it on with the button [STOPPER, @ Using the button the numeric buttons {remote control), select the programmer number from which you wish 1o record. 32 Note: * Programmer positions that have not been assigned cannot be selected.

6. HOW DO | PROGRAMMER A RECORDING? this chapter you will learn how to programmer the video recorder. It switches itself on automatically, records the TV programmer you want, and then switches itself off again automatically. What information is required by the video recorder? * the current time and today's date.
T What is “Video Programmer System” (VP? With VPS, the TV station controls when the video recorder is switched on and off. This means that the video recorder switches itself on and off at the right time even if a TV programmer you have programmed begins earlier or finishes later than expected — provided that the TV station actually transmits the VPS. Not afl TV stations transmit a VPS code. Note: * The first few seconds of a recording will be missing if the switch-on command is transmitted late.
Semivowel Programming with “Show View” c48626 -- c48626 -- c48626 This method makes programming your video recorder as easy as dialing a telephone number. All you need to do is enter the {thereto nine-digit) Show View code which is printed in your TV guide next to the starting time for the TV programmer. Be sure you have inserted a cassette without erase protection. @ Press the button on the remote control. Several short lines will appear on the display.
Note: * The VPS function is automatically activated with Show View programming. However, you can switch the VPS function on and off with the button on the remote control. If the programmer number “E 2” flashes, the video recorder is unable to connect the TV programmer name contained in the Show View code {e.g. for “BBC 1) with the programmer number on the video recorder “PRIG 01”). In this case you must now select the desired programmer nurturer “PRIG 01"} with the button on the remote control.

If the programmer guide indicates a VPS code that differs from the start time for the program, for example, “20,15 (VPS you must enter the VPS time code “20.14" as the start time and switch on “VP. CPS-controlled recording functions only if you enter the precise VPS time code. If you wish to enter a time that differs from the VPS time code, you must press button on the remote control to switch off “VP.
A — 44 General notes on programming: * The TIMER switches on the video recorder automatically only if the video recorder is switched off at the start time of the programmed recording {button [STANDBY you do not press a button for one minute during a programming procedure, the remote control automatically interrupts the process. You then have 1o start the programming procedure from the beginning.
T — How do | stop a TIMER recording? You cannot manually operate the idea recorder while a programmed recording is running. If you want to stop a programmed recording, simply press button STANDBY How can | check or correct a TINIER block? @ Press the button on the remote control. In order to get the best stereo sound quality you can record the picture from the TV channel and simultaneously record the stereo sound from the radio. Recording audio only This video recorder allows you to make “audio only” recordings. To do this, connect the video recorder to an audio system {socket , back of the video recorder). © insert a cassette without erase protection. © Press button on the remote control several times until the video recorder display shows "L AUD STOP” {Line Audio Stop). © Press button the video recorder. The video recorder begins recording the sound. The sound is controlled autocratically.
i Audio dubbing This function enables you to replace (dub) the mono sound track of a previously made recording with another sound recording. To do this, connect a sound source to the video recorder (socket [(AUDIO TN ], back of video recorder). Only the normal {linear) mono sound track is changed; it is erased completely. The stereo sound track and the video image remain unchanged. @ Insert the correct cassette. © Use button to locate the position at which the audio dubbing is 1o start.

S — Externally controlled recording Do you have another device, such as a satellite receiver, equipped with an integrated clock which can be used for controlling other devices? 8. PARTICULAR FUNCTIONS AND EXTRAS ON YOUR VIDEO RECORDER 52 Tuner mode. Your video recorder as an extension of your TV set You can also use your video recorder as a TV receiver {tuner). This is handy if your TV set does not have remote control or if it has fewer channel buttons than the number of channels it could actually receive. Proceed as follows: @ Switch on the TV set. Select the programmer number reserved for video playback. @ Press button on the remote control.
B View mode You can make use of extra functions if a second units consented to socket EXTERNAL 2. However, it is possible that in your reception area this channel is already occupied by another TV station, In this case, the picture quality of one or more TV stations on the TV may be reduced. Should this be the case with your TV set, proceed as follows: © Check whether all TV stations function unchanged. © If the picture quality of one or more TV stations is reduced, confirm this by switching off the video recorder with the button .
T 56 Display of the TV station name For TV stations that transmit the station name, this name is visible in Eject, Pause, Stop, Record and Tuner mode while you are pressing button on the remote control. I “NAME UNKNOWN* appears, the name of the station is not being transmitted. Switching off the built-in modulator in the previous section we discussed possible disturbances in TV reception. [f the methods suggested there do not remedy the picture/sound disturbance, you can switch off the built-in modulator.
Automatic switch-off If the video recorder is not operated during a period longer than five minutes while it is in one of the following functions, the function is switched off.
58 5 Switching between VCR 1 and VCR 2 This function is important if you have two video recorders with the same remote control code. You can avoid unintentional operation of the wrong video recorder by simply changing the remote control code of a video recorder and its remote control. @ Press the button on the video recorder if & cassette is inserted.
