OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS PHILIPS VR 157 Congratulations! You arg now the owner of one of the most sophisticated and simpleton-use video recorders (VCR) on the market. With this VCR you can record and play VHS standard cassettes. Naturally, you can’t wait to use it, but before you do, it's worthwhile taking the time to read through the whole of this operating manual.
1. SUMMARY OF BUTTONS AND CONTROLS Here is a list of the buttons, controls and sockets that you will use on the set and the remote control. You will find detailed descriptions of the various functions in the relevant chapters.
Important for the United Kingdom This apparatus is fitted with an approved molded 13 Amp plug. To change a fuse in this type of plug proceed as follows: © Remove fuse cover and fuse. © Fix new fuse which should be a BS$1362 3A, AS.T.A or BS! approved type. © Refit the fuse cover. If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate plug fitted in its place.
2. RECORDER? INSTALLATION. HOW DO I INSTALL THE VIDEO How to insert the batteries into the remote control @ Remove the cover from the back of the remote control. To do this, press the sides of the cover together and, simultaneously, slide it down. © Insert the batteries as indicated into the battery compartment and close the cover. Connecting to the aerial Connecting to the TV set Your video recorder is actually a "TV set without a screen’. Therefore, you must connect it to the aerial as well as to the TV set. Only then can you record TV programmed and play recorded cassettes. © Remove the aerial cable plug from your TV set and insert it into the socket [T lat the back of the video recorder.
Connecting to a satellite receiver If you wish to connect a satellite receiver via the scary socket, you can not connect your television set with a scary cable. Read in chapter ‘Special features’ the section about 'Playback via the aerial cable’. Emergency interrupt Both the set and the remote control have an ‘Emergency interrupt’ button. You can use the button to interrupt any function. Whenever you have operating problems you can simply interrupt the function and start again.
3. STORING TV CHANNELS For the video recorder to be able to record TV programmed you must first store the TV channels 'BBC 1"} in the video recorder, Please note that the programmer sequence for the first four TV channels is as follows: BBC 1 = P01, CH4 =P 04 You can store channels. Programming on the remote control You can enter data in the remote control for one recording at a time. The remote control display indicates all the programmer steps. The data is stored in the video recorder in the next free TIMER block. Make sure that you have loaded a cassette without erase protection.
