2 IMPORTANT PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES During nolmal use, every precaution must be taken to limit the risk of fire, electric shock and/or accidents. • Read carefully all the instructions and information listed in this manual and in any other booklet contained in the packaging before turning on or using the espresso machine. • Do not touch hot surfaces. • To avoid fires, electric shocks or accidents, do not immerse the cord, plug or body of the machine in water or other liquid.
3 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE ELECTRICAL CORD • A short electrical cord has been provided to keep it from twisting or causing tripping. • Extension cords can be used, but must be used with great care. When an extension cord is used, check that: a. the voltage listed on the extension cord corresponds to the electrical voltage of the appliance; b. the cord has a grounded, three-prong plug (if the appliance's cord is of this type); c. the cord does not dangle from the table to avoid tripping.

INSTALLATION 5 STARTING THE MACHINE Make sure the power button is not pressed and the machine is turned off. Check the machine features on the label on the bottom of the appliance. 1 Remove the coffee bean hopper lid. Fill the hopper with coffee beans. 4 Fill the tank with fresh drinking water. Do not exceed the “max” level indicated on the water tank. Once filled, place the tank back into the machine. 2 Close the lid pushing it down completely.
6 INSTALLATION SETTING THE LANGUAGE When the machine is switched on for the first time, it requires the selection of the desired language. This allows you to adjust the parameters of the beverage to the typical parameters of the country where the machine is used. 7 FIRST USE - USE AFTER A LONG PERIOD OF INACTIVITY These operations ensure an optimum brewing and must be performed: 1) At first start-up 2) When the machine remains inactive for a long time (more than 2 weeks). 1 2 3 8:30 am 15/06/06 Fill the tank with fresh drinking water. INSTALLATION 8 INTENZA WATER FILTER To improve the quality of the water you use, and extend the life of your machine at the same time, it is recommended that you install the water filter. After installation, select the water filter function under the machine settings menu (see page 22). By setting the water filter status to ON, the machine informs the user when the filter must be replaced.

10 ADJUSTMENTS AROMA OPTI-DOSE (ADJUSTS THE COFFEE DOSE PER CUP) The color intensity of the icon indicates the aroma - the quantity of coffee to be ground for each beverage. The greater the quantity of coffee ground, the stronger the coffee will taste. light medium strong pre-ground COFFEE STRENGTH The SBS dial has been carefully designed to give your coffee the fullness and intensity you desire. Simply turn the dial, and you will notice that the coffee brewed will adjust to the setting selected.
11 DRIP TRAY HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT Adjust the drip tray to the appropriate cup size before selecting the beverage. To raise the drip tray, press lightly on the lower part of the button. To lower the drip tray, press lightly on the upper part of the button. When the desired height is reached, release the button. SAECO ADAPTING SYSTEM Coffee is a natural product and its characteristics may change according to its origin, blend and roast.
12 ADJUSTMENTS COFFEE GRINDER ADJUSTMENT The machine enables a slight adjustment of the coffee grinder. Coffee may be ground according to your own tastes. The adjustment must be performed using the small pin located inside the coffee bean hopper. This must be pressed down and turned by means of the supplied grinder adjustment key only. Press and turn the pin one notch at a time. You will need to brew 2-3 cups of coffee before you taste a difference.
BEVERAGE DISPENSING COFFEE BREWING CAN BE STOPPED AT ANY TIME BY PRESSING « 13 ». THE STEAM WAND MAY REACH HIGH TEMPERATURES: DANGER OF SCALDING. DO NOT TOUCH IT WITH BARE HANDS. To brew 2 cups, the machine dispenses the first coffee, and briefly interrupts dispensing in order to grind the second coffee dose. Coffee dispensing is then restarted and completed. BREWING WITH WHOLE BEANS This procedure shows how to brew an espresso. To brew another type of coffee, press the appropriate icon.
14 BEVERAGE DISPENSING BREWING WITH PRE-GROUND COFFEE The machine allows you to use pre-ground and decaffeinated coffee. Pre-ground coffee must be scooped into the bypass doser next to the coffee bean hopper. Only use coffee that is ground specifically for espresso machines and never coffee beans or instant coffee. WARNING: ONLY PUT PRE-GROUND COFFEE INTO THE BYPASS DOSER WHEN YOU WISH TO BREW THIS TYPE OF BEVERAGE. INSERT ONLY ONE SCOOP OF GROUND COFFEE AT A TIME.

The machine may take a few seconds to warm up before steam is dispensed. 7 Select steam (see steps 2 and 3 on page 16). Froth the milk by gently swirling the cup.
This device, which may be purchased separately, enables you to easily and comfortably prepare delicious cappuccinos. Warning: before using the Milk Island, read the manual and all precautions carefully for correct use. Important note: the quantity of milk in the carafe must never be below the “MIN” minimum level nor exceed the “MAX” maximum level. Thoroughly clean all the Milk Island components after use.
BEVERAGE SETTINGS BEVERAGE PROGRAMMING MENU Every beverage may be programmed according to your individual tastes. 8:30 am 15/06/06 Once a beverage has been customized, the machine will use these saved settings when brewing that particular beverage. To modify the quantity of coffee, you must reset the customization.

This function is activated by default by the manufacturer. Note: the rinse cycle is performed every time the machine is started up, after the warming phase. Activate/deactivate the warning to replace the water filter. Important note.
24 PROGRAMMING THE MACHINE BEVERAGE SETTINGS This menu allows you to adjust the general brew parameters of the various types of coffee. 25 TIME/DATE SETTINGS In this menu, you can set the current time, the stand-by timer and the energy saving function. MAINTENANCE 27 MAINTENANCE SETTINGS In this menu, adjustments can be made to clean/maintain all the machine’s internal circuits. This function temporarily locks the touch screen (e.g. to clean the display).
MAINTENANCE 28 BOILER DESCALING CYCLE In case of conflict, priority must be given to what is indicated in the operation and maintenance manual over the instructions provided on separately sold accessories and materials. To carry out an automatic descaling cycle. Descaling should be performed every 1-2 months, when water comes out more slowly than usual or when the machine displays the relevant message. The machine must be on and controls the distribution of the descaling solution automatically.
29 To manage the different procedures correctly, the machine could need the knob to be turned on (ref. (ref. ) during the different steps. When needed, turn the knob as indicated on the display. 4 fill the water tank with the descaling solution When the above message appears, the boiler is at the right temperature. 5 6 Pour the entire content of the Saeco concentrated descaling solution into the water tank, and then fill the tank with fresh drinking water up to the MAX level.

During the rinse cycle, the machine may require the water tank to be filled. 14 Once the rinse cycle is finished, the above screen appears. Remove the water tank, install the water filter again (if desired) and fill it with fresh drinking water.
PROGRAMMING THE MACHINE FACTORY SETTINGS This menu allows you to restore all factory settings. 2. main menu Press the “factory settings” button. 1 2.1. factory settings yes no Do you want to restore factory settings? 32 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE DURING OPERATION During normal operation, the “empty coffee grounds drawer” message will appear. This operation must be performed when the machine is on. 1 2 Remove the dregdrawer. Empty and clean it. The message to empty the dregdrawer is displayed approximately every 14 coffee cycles. If you remove grounds with the machine off or when not signaled on the display, the count of coffee cycles into the drawer is not reset.
33 CLEANING THE BREW GROUP The brew group must be cleaned at least once a week. Before removing the group, remove the coffee dregdrawer as shown on page 32. Wash the brew group with lukewarm water. Lubricate the brew group after approximately 500 brewing cycles. The brew group lubricant can be purchased through Saeco or authorized service centers. WARNING! Do not wash the brew group with harsh or abrasive detergents or chemicals which could prevent it from operating correctly. Do not wash in the dishwasher.

8 INSTALAÇÃO FILTRO ÁGUA INTENZA Para melhorar a qualidade da água utilizada, garantindo ao mesmo tempo uma vida mais longa do aparelho, aconselhamos que instale o filtro água. Depois da instalação proceda com o programa de activação do filtro (veja programação); deste modo a máquina avisa o utilizador quando o filtro deve ser substituído. Tire o filtro da embalagem e mergulhe-o na posição vertical (com a abertura para cima) em água fria e pressione delicadamente os lados para que saiam as bolhas de ar.

10 AJUSTES (OPTI-DOSE) INDICAÇÃO DA QUANTIDADE DE CAFÉ MOÍDO A intensidade de cor do ícone indicará a quantidade de café a moer para a preparação do produto. Maior será a quantidade de café a ser moído e mais forte será o café distribuído. suave médio forte pré-moído CONSISTÊNCIA DO CAFÉ O dispositivo SBS foi realizado de propósito para dar ao café a consistência e a intensidade de gosto desejada. Com uma simples rotação do botão será possível adaptar o carácter do café a seu gosto.
11 AJUSTE DA ALTURA DA BANDEJA DE LIMPEZA Ajuste a bandeja de limpeza antes de distribuir os produtos para poder usar quaisquer tipo de chávenas. Para levantar pressione levemente a parte inferior da tecla, para baixar pressione levemente a parte superior da tecla; quando alcançar a altura desejada, solte a tecla. SAECO ADAPTING SYSTEM O café é um produto natural e as suas características podem mudar em função da origem, da mistura e da torrefacção.
12 AJUSTES AJUSTE DO MOINHO DE CAFÉ A máquina permite realizar um pequeno ajuste do grau de moagem do café para adaptá-lo ao tipo de café utilizado. O ajuste deverá ser realizado pressionando o pino presente dentro do recipiente de café; este deverá ser pressionado e virado só através da chave fornecida. Pressione e vire o pino de uma posição por vez e distribua 2-3 cafés; só desta maneira será possível notar a variação do grau de moagem.
DISTRIBUIÇÃO DO PRODUTO 13 É POSSÍVEL INTERROMPER A DISTRIBUIÇÃO DE CAFÉ A QUALQUER MOMENTO PRESSIONANDO DE ». NOVO A TECLA « O VAPOR PODE ALCANÇAR TEMPERATURAS ELEVADAS: PERIGO DE QUEIMADURAS. EVITE TOCÁLO DIRECTAMENTE COM AS MÃOS. Para distribuir 2 chávenas, a máquina distribuirá metade da quantidade seleccionada e interromperá brevemente a distribuição para moer a segunda dose de café. A distribuição de café será portanto reiniciada e terminada.
14 DISTRIBUIÇÃO DO PRODUTO DISTRIBUIÇÃO DE BEBIDA COM CAFÉ MOIDO A máquina permite utilizar café pré-moído e descafeinado. O café pré-moído deve ser deitado no compartimento apropriado posicionado ao lado do recipiente de café em grãos. Deite apenas café para máquinas de café expresso moído e nunca café em grãos ou solúvel. MANUTENÇÃO 27 PROGRAMAÇÕES DE MANUTENÇÃO Para limpar/realizar a manutenção de todos os circuitos internos da máquina. MANUTENÇÃO 28 MENU «CICLO DESCALCIFICAÇÃO CALDEIRA» O indicado no manual de uso e manutenção tem prioridade com relação às indicações descritas nos acessórios e/ou materiais de uso vendidos separadamente, onde exista um problema. Para realizar o ciclo automático de descalcificação. A descalcificação é necessária a cada 1-2 meses, quando a água sair mais lentamente que de costume ou quando a máquina avisar. A máquina deve estar ligada e realizará automaticamente a distribuição do descalcificante.
29 A máquina pode solicitar, nas várias operações, a abertura (ref. ) ou o fechamento (ref. ) do botão para permitir a correcta gestão das várias operações. Vire o botão como indicado no visor quando solicitado. 4 encher o reservatório de água com solução descalcificante Quando aparecer a mensagem seguinte a caldeira estará à temperatura certa. 7 ciclo descal.

32 LIMPEZA E MANUTENÇÃO MANUTENÇÃO DURANTE O FUNCIONAMENTO Durante o funcionamento normal pode aparecer a mensagem “esvaziar gaveta borras”. Esta operação deve ser realizada quando a máquina está a funcionar. 1 2 Retire a gaveta de recolha das borras. Esvazie-a e lave-a. Ao esvaziar as borras com a máquina desligada ou quando não for sinalizado no visor, não será zerada a contagem das borras depositadas na gaveta.
33 LIMPEZA DO GRUPO DE DISTRIBUIÇÃO O grupo de distribuição deverá ser limpo pelo menos uma vez por semana. Antes de extrair o grupo será preciso retirar a gaveta de recolha das borras como mostrado na fig. 1 da pág.32. Lave o grupo de distribuição com água morna. Lubrifique o grupo de distribuição depois de cerca de 500 distribuições. É possível comprar a graxa para a lubrificação do grupo de distribuição nos centros de assistência autorizados.
