2 Your new player On Connect, you can do the following: • Access the Internet through Wi-Fi; • Access online services, such as music and videos, bookstores, social networking services, maps, news, clock, weather, and other services; • Access thousands of applications in the Market; • Sync Connect with your PC media library; • Share media files through Bluetooth or email; • Play music; • Watch videos; • View pictures; • Take photos and record videos; • Make sound recordings.
3 Get started Note • Rechargeable batteries have a limited number Charge power Connect has a built-in battery that can be charged through the USB connector of a computer, or the supplied USB power adapter. By using the USB cable, connect the player to a PC, or the supplied USB power adapter. of charge cycles. Lock/ unlock the screen By locking the screen, you can lock all the touch controls on the screen. Thus, undesired operations are prevented. Auto lock After a time duration, the screen dims and is locked automatically. To set the time duration, go to > [Display] > [Screen timeout]. Screens To lock the screen manually • Press / . Rotate the screen To unlock the screen To select the landscape or portrait view, 1 2 1 Make sure that you have switched on [Auto-rotate screen] in > [Display].
To switch between the selected languages, 1 On the onscreen keyboard, hold until the screen for language options is displayed. 2 Swipe left/ right to select a language. To switch between letters and numbers/ symbols, • Tap / . Tip • On the numeric/symbol keyboard, tap to switch between numbers/symbols and more symbol choices. Select options for text entry Add languages to the option list Add to the option list the languages that you often use.
3 Drag the marks to select or change the start/ end positions. » In the pop-up screen, options are displayed: [Copy], [Cut]. User dictionary Add or remove words or phrases to/from the user dictionary. You can customize the word suggestions that are displayed on the pop-up screen during your text entry. From the Home screen, tap > [Language & keyboard] >[User dictionary]. To add a word or phrase, • Press to add a word or phrase.
5 Get contents on the player To connect to a Wi-Fi network, 1 From the Home screen, swipe to the Right page. 2 On the power control widget, tap to switch on the Wi-Fi function, if necessary. » The Connect starts connecting to the previously connected network. On Connect, you can get contents: • from the Internet through Wi-Fi; • from your PC through the USB cable; • from the Micro SD card that you insert into the player. To check the contents onConnect, • go to from the Home screen.
Market Tip Install applications from the Market From the Home screen, go to . You can download and install applications and games. 1 In • 2 Download the application. • Tap the option. » When the downloading is complete, is displayed on the status bar. 3 • On the player, you can also install the applications that you transfer from PCs through the USB cable. In , find the application and tap the option to start installation. , search for an application as needed. Tap to use the quick search box.
Manual sync If you have switched off auto sync, you can manually sync the data as needed. 1 Under [Manage accounts], tap an account. » A list of sync options is displayed. 2 Tap to select the data to be synced (such as calendar, mail). 3 Tap [Sync now]. Tip • To sync the data manually, you can also press Transfer from your PC music library To play music from on Connect, use the PC software to transfer music from your PC music library.
• Format the Micro SD card in > [Storage] > [Erase SD card]. » All the data on the SD card are removed. » On the SD card, the default file folders are created in the same way as they are on the internal memory of Connect. 2 From the Home screen, go to . » You can view files/ folders on the internal memory and SD card. 3 To copy or move files/ folders, • On the screen of files/ folders, press and select [Copy] or [Move]. » A list of checkboxes is displayed next to the files/ folders.
Find files Share files From the Home screen, tap . You can find files that you store on the internal memory of Connect and the SD card.
6 Search on the player You can search on the player through: • the quick search box of Google Search, or • the web browser. Use the quick search box To search the player, Go to Google Search from the Home screen. Use the quick search box to search the Web, or search the player for music, the applications in the Market, and the bookmarks or web history in the browser. 1 On the quick search box, tap and select a search option in the drop-down list. 2 To find other search options, tap .
[Google Search settings]: Select options for the Google Search in the Web. [Show web suggestion] Display suggestions when you type in keywords. To switch between screens 1 On the screen of web page, press select [Windows]. 2 Tap the selected screen. [Searchable items]: Select the items that you can search for on the player. [Clear search shortcuts]: Clear the shortcuts to previously selected search results. Such shortcuts are displayed under the quick search box.
7 Music On Connect, you can play music from: • online music services, such as , ; or, • the music library on the player. Stream from online music services 1 Make sure that you have connected the player to the Internet (see ‘Connect to the Internet’ on page 19). 2 To stream music to the player, go to the online music services, such as , . Play from the media library Go to to play music from the media library on Connect.
Play music • a In the library, tap a selected song, album, or artist to start play. » The play screen is displayed. b c Find and play songs by mood On the play screen, songs are listed by mood horizontally and vertically. Horizontally: from sad to happy Vertically: from calm to aggressive • Tap to select a song as needed; • To generate a playlist of songs similar in mood, tap the button 3. » With current song as the origin, a playlist of similar songs is created.
8 Videos On Connect, you can • stream videos from online services, such as , . Stream from online services 1 Make sure that you have connected the player to the Internet (see ‘Connect to the Internet’ on page 19). 2 To stream videos to the player, go to the online services, such as , .
9 Gallery To list pictures as thumbnails or in stacks by date, • Drag the button 2. From the Home screen, go to to play: • pictures that you store on the player, or • videos/ pictures that you record/ take by using the camera on Connect. To go to the main menu of Gallery, • Tap the button 4. Browse the library 1 From the Home screen, go to . » Picture folders are displayed. 2 Tap a folder. » Pictures in the folder are displayed. d To go to the camera mode, • Tap the button 3.
Set a picture as wallpaper You can set a picture as the wallpaper of the Home screen. Crop pictures By cropping a picture, you can reduce its size. Edit or crop a picture when: • you share the picture through email, Bluetooth, or social networking services; or • you set the picture as wallpaper. 1 Play a picture (see ‘Play pictures’ on page 29). 2 On the play screen, tap the onscreen button Menu and select More. 3 Tap Crop. » A cropping frame is displayed.
10 Camera With the 1.3 Mega-pixel lens at the front, you can do the following on Connect: • Have video chats with friends over the Internet; • Shoot yourself by using the camera or video recorder. d c b Use the lens for video chat 1 From [Market], download the video chat application. 2 3 On the player, launch the application. To use the lens, • Follow the instructions of the application; • Point the lens at you or objects.
Select settings 1 On the screen of camera/ video recorder, tap the button 4, 5 or 6. 2 3 Tap to select your option. To exit, tap the buttonagain. Select the following options by tapping the button 5: Scene mode Picture size Picture quality Color effect Video quality You can select the preset shooting settings for scenes, such as landscape, portrait, or night.
• 11 Document editor Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the pairing. If necessary, select Add Device inthe pull-down list. From the Home screen, go to . You can do the following: • Sync folders/ documents between your PC and Connect; • View Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files, Adobe PDF documents; • Create and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents on Connect.

Find documents on the player 1 From the Home screen, go to . » The main menu is displayed. 2 On the main menu, select a folder. • • Tap the button 6 to list documents/ folders by alphabet in the ascending or descending order. 12 Maps From the Home screen, go to . You can use the map services over Wi-Fi networks. Connect to the location service 1 Make sure that the player is connected to the Internet through Wi-Fi (see ‘Connect to the Internet’ on page 19). » is displayed in the status bar when the Wi-Fi connection is completed successfully. 2 Switch on the location service: • From the Home screen, go to > [Location & security] > [Use wireless networks]. Tap the tick box.
4 On the information page, tap to select your options: • : Tap to get the directions of the destination. • : Tap to display the destination on the map. • : Tap to add star to the destination. » A pop-up text box is displayed for you to name the destination. To select different routes, 1 On the screen of instructions, tap the drop-down button on the top right. » The option list is displayed. 2 Tap your option. » The destination is saved as starred place.
Add star to routes After you get the directions for a destination, you can add star to the route. • On the screen of instructions, press and select . Find the starred places and routes • On the screen of map, press select .
13 Email 3 On Connect, you can receive and send email as you do on a computer. Do the following: • Use the web-based mailbox, such as the QQ mailbox in ; or • Set up your email accounts on the player. To select your options for the accounts, • On the screen of mail list, press and select [More] > [Settings].
2 Tap the selected account. » Messages from the account are displayed. Check messages by conversation You can group the messages by conversation, and check all the messages that you have sent and received during the conversation in a thread. b a 1 2 From the Home screen, go to . On the screen of mail list, press and select [Accounts list] > [All accounts]. » Different colors are used to mark the messages from different accounts.
Check unread messages To check the unread messages, • On the screen of mail list, tap the button at the base. » The unread messages in current folder are displayed. 2 To select the account that you use to send the message, tap the [From] box. » If you have set up more than one email account on the player, an option list is displayed. Tap the selected option. » Tap the other text boxes to compose the message.
To add your signature to your outgoing messages, 1 On the screen of mail list, press select [More] > [Settings]. 2 To edit your signature, • In [Settings], select [General settings] > [Signature]. 3 To use the signature, • In [Settings]> [General settings], tap the tick box next to [Use signature]. » If the function is enabled, the tick box is selected. and Organize email messages To move current message to a folder, 1 When you read the message, press and select [More] > [Move].
• 14 Bluetooth Through Bluetooth, you can do the following wirelessly on the player: • Receive or send files from or to another connected Bluetooth device; • Listen to audio files through stereo Bluetooth headphones; • Use the player as FTP server. Your friends can browse and download the files on Connect from their connected devices that also support the FTP profile.
• • 3 On the file list, tap to select files; Tap the paired device to start sending. » When Connect is connected to the Bluetooth device, is displayed on the screen. On the Bluetooth device, receive the files: • Confirm as prompted. • Save the files as prompted. Receive files from another Bluetooth device 1 2 3 Make sure that • you have paired Connect with the Bluetooth device; • on Connectand Bluetooth device, Bluetooth is on. On the Bluetooth device, send files to Connect through Bluetooth.
15 Sound recorder With the sound recorder, you can record voice messages. Make voice recordings 1 From the Home screen, go to . » Existing recordings are displayed. 2 Make sure that the microphone is close to the sound source to be recorded. MIC 3 Do the following to start, pause, or stop recording. / Tap to start, pause, or resume recording. Tap to stop recording.
16 Speech recorder With the speech recorder, record and play your speech. You can use voice dialing on a phone that supports the speech recognition function. Make speech recordings 1 2 From the Home screen, go to . Make sure that the microphone is close to the sound source to be recorded. MIC 3 For the speech recording, select the format, and the content type, such as a contact or a number to dial. 4 Tap Record to start recording.
17 Calendar On Connect, you can: • create your calendar; • sync the calendar with your Microsoft Exchange account (see ‘Use the player in corporate networks’ on page 52). Add events to the calendar 1 2 From the Home screen, go to . On the calendar screen, press and select [New event]. • Alternatively, tap to select a date or time duration on the calendar. Select your options for the reminders 3 Add an event: • Tap the text boxes to edit the event, including the topic, time and location.
To use vibration, • In [Reminder settings], tap the tick box next to [Vibrate]. » If the function is enabled, the tick box is selected. » At the set reminder time, the player vibrates. View the calendar You can view calendar by day, week, month, or agenda. Month view 1 On the calendar screen, press and select the option for month view. 2 To select a month, swipe up/ down. Week view 1 2 To go to the week view, • In the month view, tap a date in the week. press and select the option for week view.
Send invitation To share an event with a contact, send an invitation. 1 2 In , tap an event to view the details. On the screen of event details, press > . Select the option for email. » Invitation is sent to the contact with the event as the attachment. Set the preferred calendar view You can select the preferred calendar view as the first page of your calendar. 1 On the calendar view, press [More]. 2 In [Settings] > [Calendar view setting], tap next to [Start in].
18 Alarm clock On the player, you can set three alarms. Set an alarm 1 Make sure that you have set the clock time (see ‘Time and date’ on page 59). 2 3 From the Home screen, tap . 4 Select your option. Confirm as prompted. To set an alarm clock, tap the preset alarm time. » The set alarm screen is displayed. Time Ringtone Vibrate Repeat Label Set the alarm time. Select the ringtone for the alarm, silence, buzzer, or ringtone. Select whether the player vibrates at the set alarm time.
19 Calculator From the Home screen, tap calculator. to use the 1 Enter numbers and mathematic operators: • Use the onscreen keyboard for entry; • Swipe left to use more mathematic functions. 2 Tap = to start calculation. To clear entries, 1 Tap to put the cursor behind the entry where you start to clear. 2 Tap CLEAR repeatedly. • Entries before the cursor are cleared. • To clear all the entries, tap and hold CLEAR.
20 Use the player in corporate networks You can use Connect in corporate networks. Install the secure credentials or security certificates before you access corporate networks. The access to corporate network may allow you to set up your Microsoft Exchange account and add VPN on the player. With the Microsoft Exchange account, you can access your exchange mailbox at work. Install secure credentials Ask your network administrator for secure credentials or security certificates.
Add VPN Virtual private network (VPN) allows you to connect to private networks through secure access. Sometimes, you need VPN access to connect to corporate networks. To add VPN on the player 1 Ask your network administrator for the configuration information. 2 From the Home screen, go to > [Network] > [VPN settings] > [Add VPN]. 3 4 Configure the VPN as prompted. Install the secure credentials as needed (see ‘Install secure credentials’ on page 52).
21 Settings Note • If you have disabled SSID broadcasting or From the Home screen, go to to select your settings. • Swipe up or down to scroll through lists of options. Tap an option to select it; • Tap to go to the Home screen; • Tap to go to the previous screen. Airplane mode In [Network] > [Airplane mode], disable or enable the access to Wi-Fi. Switch on the airplane mode when: • you need to disable the access to WiFi for safety purposes, such as on an airplane.
Advanced settings Enter the IP address manually 1 In [Wi-Fi settings], press and select [Advanced] > [Use static IP]. • If necessary, tap [Use static IP] to switch on the function. » If the function is enabled, the tick box is selected. 2 In [IP settings], assign an IP address manually. • Enter an IP address that allows the device to be in the same subnet as the router. For example, if the router has IP address: 192.168.1.1, Subnet mask: 255.255.255.
» On another Bluetooth device, you can scan for the Connect. Tip Application In [Application], manage the applications you installed on the Connect. • To connect to the Connect on a Bluetooth device, consult the user manual of the Bluetooth device. Scan for devices To connect another Bluetooth device on Connect, scan for the Bluetooth device on the Connect. Unknown sources On Connect, you can install applications that you download from , or from sources other than .
Storage use In Storage use, check the storage that applications occupy. Battery use In Battery use, check the battery use by applications. Development In [Development], select options for your development of Android applications. [USB Allow the player to enter the debugging] mode where the player can communicate with the PC through the USB cable. [Stay Keep the screen switched on awake] and unlocked during the USB connection. Make the location undetected [Allow by the player.
2 Follow onscreen instructions to complete calibration. G-sensor calibration The G sensor allows you to switch between the landscape and portrait views on the Connect. With the G sensor calibrated, Connect can precisely response to the screen rotation, and switch between the landscape and portrait views. 1 Tap [G-Sensor Calibration] to start calibration. 2 Follow onscreen instructions to complete calibration.
Display Time and date In [Display], select your display settings: Automatic setting [Brightness] Drag the slider to change the display brightness. [AutoSwitch on/ off the screen rotate rotation between the landscape screen] and portrait views. [Animation] Select whether to show animation when you open or close screens. [Screen After the selected time timeout] duration, the screen turns off automatically. To save battery power, select a low value.
[Show web suggestion] Display suggestions when you type in keywords. [Searchable items]: Select the items that you can search for on the player. [Clear search shortcuts]: Clear the shortcuts to previously selected search results. Such shortcuts are displayed under the quick search box. Location & security Use wireless networks • In [Location & security], switch on or off [Use wireless networks]. » If the function is enabled, the tick box is selected.

22 Check for firmware update Update the firmware through Philips Device Manager 1 Make sure that your computer is connected to the Internet. Connect Connect to Wi-Fi. You can receive notifications about firmware updates. Drag down the status bar to check notifications (see ‘Status bar and notification pull-down list’ on page 13). You can update the firmware of Connect • on the device, or • through Philips Device Manager. 2 3 Connect Connect to the computer.
23 Troubleshooting If Connect doesn’t work properly or the display freezes, you can reset it without losing data: How do I reset Connect? • Insert a pen tip or other object into the reset hole located at the bottom of Connect. Hold until the player shuts down.
