1 General Information The Philips DECT I600 is a cordless system terminal for use in conjunction with a communications system. The Philips DECT I600 is suitable for use in office, in outdoor or in dusty environments. The handset offers the following special features: ■ SOS key for one touch emergency call or message ■ mandown sensor triggers emergency call automatically ■ complies with protection class IP54 (splash- and dust proof ) Get to know your telephone equipment.
2 Important Safety Information Only use this product in countries where the relevant authorities have authorised its operation. This product complies with IP54 – according to IEC 529 / EN 60 529. Sensitive Electronic Environment Any radio-based equipment can potentially cause interference with other equipment and can be interfered from other equipment. This also applies for DECT equipment. However, due to the very low transmission power level, interferences are unlikely.
■ Only use the plug-in AC adapter and battery type supplied. ■ Do not use AC adapters which are visibly damaged (cracked or broken housing) and keep the ventilation slits on the plug-in AC adapters free. WARNING! Never touch the charger and the battery contacts with conductive objects such as keys, paper clips, rings or bracelets! Usage ■ Do not use the handsets in vehicles or in hazardous locations. ■ This product contains magnetic material.
3 Installation Site Commissioning your Handset Installation Place the charging station on a flat, even surface.
2 1 Removing the battery pack Extracting the MEM card from its frame The MEM card is delivered with a larger frame. First remove the MEM card from its frame. Do not touch the metal contacts. Extracting the MEM card from its frame Installing the MEM card Place the MEM card into the MEM card tray with the notch in position b and the metal contacts face down. Shift the MEM card under the two small crescents a (1). Press the MEM card downwards until the small tag b locks (2).
Re-inserting the battery pack Push the battery pack into the casing (1). Press the battery pack downwards until it locks (2). 2 Re-inserting the battery pack Installing the Charger To operate the charging station you need a mains connection. Check if the mains voltage does match the AC adapter mains voltage. Connect the cable of the adapter plug to the socket on the underside of the charging station, and then insert the adapter plug into the mains socket.
4 Important Battery Information Use the battery pack only as directed. Never use a damaged or flat battery pack. Heat and cold reduce the performance and the lifetime of the battery pack. A handset with either a hot or a cold battery pack may not function temporarily, even when the battery pack is fully charged. Dispose of used batteries in accordance with local regulations. Please make use of any recycling facilities available. WARNING! Never throw a battery pack into a fire.
5 Commissioning Charging the Batteries Charge the battery pack for approx. five to six hours before using your handset for the first time. This safety measure extends the lifetime of your battery pack. The maximum performance of the battery pack is only reached after three to five charging/ discharging cycles. Place the handset in the charging station regularly in order to reach the optimum battery charge.
Your handset has a battery management system that has to determine the limits of the battery charging status before it can display an accurate charge level. When the battery has been replaced, the charge level is not correctly displayed until a whole charge and discharge cycle has been completed. When the handset is in the charging station, the flashing or lit sections indicate charging and the charge level.
6 Handset Subscription (Checking In) Initial Setup and Operation Your handset can be operated in up to ten different communications systems. To be able to do this, it must be subscribed to every system, this means: the handset must be checked in. Note: If you handset is preinstalled by your supplier, no check-in operation is necessary. Enrol your handset in the communications system as described in the chapter Menu: System starting on page 46.

System Telephone Option Security Menu A selectable entry is shown inversely with a dark background. Caller List Messages Key Lock OK Selection lists (e.g. caller filter) and the features menu are displayed as a three-line excerpt. The lines can be moved up or down via the arrow keys. 8 Softkeys and Other Keys Search:_ Miller Newman Smith Options F Softkey: Arrow Keys Deleting characters 18 Esc The two keys below the display, as well as the arrow keys, are known as softkeys. The functions assigned to the keys are shown in the lowest line of the display. The key function changes automatically according to the operating status of the handset.
Softkey: OK Press OK to confirm the selected function. If a function only has one quick-switch option, it is operated by this key. Active settings (ON) are indicated by a ““” next to the relevant item; inactive settings (OFF) are indicated by a “-”. Softkey: Options Softkey: Esc Using the Options softkey on the left, you can perform actions on the selected item in the menu you are currently in. Press the Esc softkey to exit the section of the menu currently displayed.
Loudspeaker Key / Signal Key R The handset key R has multiple functions. During a conversation: A short key press initiates an enquiry during a call. A long key press activates the speaker or handsfree mode. In the idle state: A long key press activates the speaker or hands-free mode. A short key press activates the shortcut menu (refer to Menu Shortcuts starting on page 53). Key Lock Number Keys D # successively to D# In the idle state press the left soft key and switch the key lock on.

9 Calling E Handset On / Off The handset can be switched off by pressing for more than 1 second. The handset is switched on by pressing for more than 1 second or by placing the handset in the charger. Setting the volume During a call you can adjust the speaker or earpiece volume to three levels using the arrow keys. The current setting will be shown in your display.
Predial A 12345_ Options {} Pre-dialling: Enter the phone number and press . You can use pre-dialling to chain telephone numbers from different lists. Press Options, select one of the lists with the arrow keys and OK. Esc Select a telephone number from the list. A long press on the hook key will add the number to the number predialled before. Note: In pre-dialling, if the input cursor is positioned behind the telephone number, the number to be chained will be suffixed to that telephone number.
Pre-dialling: If you press for a longer period, the selected phone number is entered into the pre-dial mode. Digits can be added to the displayed phone number, as required (see: Making a Call starting on page 22). To dial, press . The pre-dial mode is terminated by pressing Esc. A A You can call directly from the redial list or transfer a phone number to the telephone book (refer to Menu: Redial List starting on page 37).
Dialling: Use the arrow keys to select a list entry. Press phone number is dialled. A and the Pre-dialling: is pressed for a longer period, the phone number is enIf tered into the pre-dial mode. Digits (e.g. a code) can be added as required. The phone number is dialled by pressing . The pre-dial mode is terminated by pressing Esc. A A You can call back directly from the caller list or transfer a phone number to the telephone book (refer to Menu: Caller List starting on page 38).
Muting Ringer Answering a Call During the call alert phase, it is possible to mute the ringer alert signal simply by pressing the softkey Silence, now only the handset icon is signalling the incoming call. œ ¢ Incom. int. call Smith 123 Options Silence At an incoming call the number of the caller is displayed (if transmitted). If this number is already listed as an entry in the phone book, the corresponding name of this entry is displayed during an incoming call.
Enquiry Call / Call Transfer During a connection another party can be consulted (enquiry call). R holds the first call. Now dial the other phone number. Press R again to switch back to the first caller (press R to speak alternately with the other parties). A transfers the first call to the enquiry call party when you are connected to the enquiry call party.
10 Message waiting indication for Voice Mail Note: This function is applicable only if it is supported by your communications system. When a icon appears in the idle mode, the receiver has a message in his voice mail box. After listening to all new voice mail messages, the icon will disappear in idle mode. In case the handset is switched off, is out of coverage or is in the charger while silent “charging”, the message waiting indication is updated after the handset is locked to the DECT system again.
11 Messages Note: This function is applicable only if it is supported by your communications system. This handset can be used to send and receive text messages. A differentiation is made between urgent and normal messages which are signalled in different ways on the handset. Every message is stored in a list which can contain up to 10 entries. You can also receive and send messages during a connection.
Normal messages Normal messages are messages which you don’t need to confirm. The “Normal Message Display” setting can be used to select whether or not a normal message is shown. When selected normal messages are immediately signalled on the display. If you use the ringer, you hear the melody for normal messages once. If you receive a normal message during a call, then you hear a short alert tone in the speech path. Receipt confirmation You have to confirm the receipt of an urgent message.
12 The Menus: Operating Features In this and subsequent sections, all features are activated via the softkey Menu. The individual operating sequences are shown in short form, and then a short discription follows. The symbols have the following meaning: Z F Input of numbers or characters Operate arrow keys Menu Texts shown in this font represents a softkey Key Click In this way displayed texts indicate the menu item to be selected. If no entries are made within 60 seconds, then the menu is automatically quit.
13 Menu: Telephone Book Settings At least 100 phone numbers and names can be stored in the telephone book and the names are sorted alphabetically, therefore the telephone book offers an alphabetic search function. Entering the same name more than once is not accepted, but the same phone number can be stored with different names. While entering characters the first displayline shows all characters assigned to the key. The actual position is marked by “_”. Transferring Phone Numbers to the Telephone Book Every selectable phone number in the “caller list” or “redial list” can be transferred to the telephone book. To do so, the Options softkey in the Caller list Menu or Redial List Menu is available for this purpose. F select entry Options Add To edit number / enter name OK F Telephone Book OK Z It is not possible to store a phone number without an associated name.
14 Menu: Redial List In the idle state, press the ¤-softkey and then one of the arrow keys (several times if necessary). You will see the last 30 internal and external parties dialled (phone number or name) with the most recent entry at the top. F Dialing: dial the phone number by pressing Pre-dialling is started by pressing A. A for a longer period.
15 Menu: Caller List Missed and Rejected Calls All calls with a transmitted phone number are entered into the caller list. The text Missed Call is shown in the display when calls have been alerted for at least 10 seconds. If the caller is registered in the telephone book, the name is displayed. After you have called up the caller list, the Missed Call indication is removed from the display. The last 30 phone numbers are listed. Every additional phone number overwrites the oldest entry.
Delete: OK deletes the selected entry. Delete All: OK Sure? OK deletes all entries.
16 Menu: Messages Note: This function is applicable only if it is supported by your telephone system. Your handset can be used to send and receive text messages. These messages can be stored in a list with up to 10 entries. There are normal and urgent messages which are signalled to the recipient in different ways. Every stored message is displayed in the message list with the first few words of the message and can be shown in full length.

Reading a Message Sending Message F Select message Options F Read OK The complete message is displayed. Every message is marked with a time stamp (only useable if supported by your telephone system). If the message doesn’t fit on the display, use the arrow keys to scroll.
17 Menu: Key Lock Key Lock On / Off The keypad can be locked to prevent any accidental operation: press the Menu softkey, select Key Lock via the arrow keys and confirm by pressing OK. A lock icon º is then shown in the display. To unlock the keypad, press the right softkey and then shown on the display). # (as Calls can be answered in the normal way when the key lock is active and all keys can be used. The key lock is activated again after the call has been terminated.
18 Menu: Ringer Settings All entries in this chapter are started by pressing the softkeys: Menu F Ringer Settings OK Then select … Melody F Melody OK F Internal or External or Unknown Number or VIP or Normal Message or Urgent Message or Emergency Call or Alarm / Z 1…30 OK A different melody can be set for every type of call (e. g. internal, external, normal message, urgent message). Select the melody by entering a number 0…30 or use the arrow keys.
19 Menu: Volume Settings All entries in this chapter are started by pressing the softkeys: Menu F Volume Settings OK Then select … Earpiece F Earpiece OK F OK or Z 1…8 OK The voice volume of the earpiece can be changed in 8 steps via digits 1…8 or the arrow keys. Speaker (Hands-free) 44 F Hands-free OK F OK or Z 1…8 OK The voice volume of the loudspeaker can be changed in 8 steps via digits 1…8 or the arrow keys.
20 Menu: Caller Filter You can store up to 10 phone numbers in a caller filter list. Calls with these numbers can be accepted or blocked. For the caller filter to function, the caller’s number must be transmitted via ISDN. If activated ““” the display shows a caller filter icon the time.
21 Menu: System Registration Code The handset can be operated with a maximum of 10 DECT systems. Before you can make a call via the DECT system, the handset has to be registered to the respective system. A system ID and registration code may be necessary for the registration process. Ask the respective system administrator for the valid registration code. When the handset is not yet subscribed to the system the display is showing No Subscription.

22 Menu: Telephone Options All entries in this chapter are started by pressing the softkeys: Menu F Telephone Option OK Then select … Alarm F Alarm OK F Active or Set Z time 00:00 - 23:59 / OK The handset allows you to set a time between 00:00 and 23:59 at which it will emit an acoustic signal. If activated ““” the display shows an alarm icon ( ) behind the time. The alarm signal lasts 60 seconds and can be switched off by pressing any key.
Changing the Language Emergency Call / SOS Number F Language OK F English OK Sets the desired display language. It is possible to select from 12 different languages. Default setting is english. F Emergency Call OK F Messages or SOS number Z / OK The phone number or the message for the SOS function can be stored here. If no message is entered, the SOS number will be dialed (normal call). If a message is defined (up to 160 characters long), the SOS message will be send to the defined SOS number.
Attention tones F Attention tones OK F Key Click or Coverage Warn or Battery alarm or Confirm tones or Mandown Call / OK If activated ““” an acoustic warning signal is given when a key is pressed (Key Click), if there is a danger of losing the radio link (Coverage Warning), if the battery charge becomes too low (Battery alarm), if a setting is confirmed (Confirm tones) or if the handset detects the mandown condition (pre-alert phase of Mandown Call).
Auto Answer F Auto Answer OK Note: This function is applicable only if a headset is connected. When making calls with a headset, it can be useful to enable this function. On an incoming call the handset goes off-hook and you are connected to the subscriber. If activated ““” the display indicates Auto Answer. Message Options Note: This function is applicable only if it is supported by your telephone system.
23 Menu: Security Functions The security functions are protected by a PIN code (4 digits). The PIN entry is only necessary when read only is switched on. In the delivery state the PIN is set to 0 0 0 0. For additional security, **** is displayed when entering the PIN. Numbers which have been entered can be overwritten by pressing . If you have forgotten your PIN, please consult your system administrator.
24 Menu Shortcuts Several frequently used menu items can also be activated with shortcuts, so you do not have to scroll through the menu. When the handset is idle, press the signal key one of the following keys within 3 seconds: Buzzer on / off R. Now enter 1 switches the buzzer signalling off. The bell icon appears in the display. 2 switches the buzzer signalling back on.
25 Accessories ■ DECT I600 Desktop Charger ■ DECT I600 Charger Rack A maximum of eight handsets can be charged simultaneously. The charger rack is designed for desktop use and for wall mounting. ■ Belt Clip Belt clip and adapter for the handset. The adapter is clipped onto the handset and is removable without any remains or damages. ■ Headset The headset in combination with the belt clip makes really handsfree telephoning possible. This is finally optimized by the handset feature “Auto Answer”.
Connecting the Headset Note: Only use the devices and accessories approved by the manufacturer of the handset. Guarantee claims cannot be made if other types are used. The accessories can be obtained via the supplier of the handset.
26 Care and Maintenance Your telephone is a product which meets high demands with regard to design. It should therefore be treated with care. We want this product to give you pleasure for a long time and therefore make the following suggestions. Pay attention to all safety instructions. These instructions apply to the handset, charger, batteries (the whole telephone) as well as the accessories. To clean the telephone, first of all disconnect the mains plug on the charger.
