Playable Discs 7 Playable Discs This Player will play Digital Video Discs (DVDs), Video Compact Discs (VCDs), Super Video CDs, Audio CDs, and Super Audio CDs. Quick Disc Playback 17 3-4 1 DVD 795SA 5 3 5 Turn on your TV. Set it to the correct Video In channel. This is not channel 3 or 4 (as it might be for a VCR), but a distinct Video In channel. (When using an RF modulator as described on page 9, the Video In channel is 3 or 4.) You should see the Player’s blue background screen on the TV. If you cannot find the correct Video In channel, see your TV owner’s manual. Press OPEN/CLOSE c on the Player to open the disc tray.
Remote Control Buttons H (Previous) Button Press and hold for two seconds to search backward during playback. Press repeatedly to return to a previous Chapter/Track or to the beginning of the current Chapter/Track. Details are on pages 23-24. STOP C Button Press to stop Disc playback. SUBTITLE Button Press to select an available subtitle language. Details are on page 28. REPEAT Button Press repeatedly to play a Chapter, Title, Track, or entire Disc repeatedly. Front Panel 19 STANDBY-ON y Button Press to turn the Player on or off. The Standby light is red when the Player is in Standby mode (power off). The light does not appear if the power is on. SACD, MULTI CH, PROGRESSIVE lights These lights appear if the corresponding feature is active. The SACD light indicates a Super Audio CD is the current Disc. Details are on page 37. On an Audio CD or SACD, to search the Disc at four times the normal speed, press and hold H or G for about two seconds during playback. Sound will be intermittent.

Audio Language, Subtitles POWER DVD 2 Audio Language DISC Some DVDs are recorded in different languages. You may be able to watch the same movie in French, Spanish, etc. The movie may have special audio features, such as a director’s commentary or music soundtrack. If these are available on the DVD, access the different languages or featured soundtracks by following these steps.

Access Control DVD VIDEO CD POWER Access Control limits viewing of Discs that exceed the limits you set. This feature will not limit viewing if the Disc manufacturer did not code the Disc. Philips cannot guarantee the availability of Access Control with all Discs, and therefore denies any liability associated with unintended watching of Discs. Make sure your Discs play according to your Access Control settings before you allow children access to the Player.
Access Control (cont’d) 31 Play Once/Play Always With Play once or Play always, you can disable or enable viewing of a specific Disc. The Player memorizes settings for 120 Discs. When you select Play Always, the current Disc moves to the top of the list. When the list is full and you add a new Disc, the last Disc in the list will drop out of the list. 1 Insert a Disc. The Access Control message will appear on the TV screen if the current Disc is Locked. PIN will appear on the Player’s display panel.
Access Control (cont’d) Setting Parental Levels DVDs may contain alternative scenes that conform to the Parental Level, or movie rating, that you select. The Parental Level may apply to the complete Disc or to certain scenes on the Disc. Follow the steps below to set the Parental Level at which you want DVDs to play. The DVD manufacturer must have coded the Disc in order for the Parental Level to block viewing of the DVD. Check your Disc case for details. will be highlighted.
Access Control (cont'd) 33 Changing the Country If a DVD has Parental Level coding, the codings are applicable only for the country specified on the Disc. The DVD manufacturer sets these codings. For example, a DVD may be coded at Level 3 for the United States. So, for some DVDs, you may need to choose the Country for which the Disc is coded in order for the DVD to play at the Parental Level you select. Parental Level details are on page 32. Favorite Track Selection Favorite Track Selection (FTS) lets you play your favorite Tracks in the order you select. A Program can contain 100 Tracks from Super Audio CDs, Audio CDs, MP3 (files on CD-R or CD-RW), Video CDs, or Super Video CDs. Audio CD FTS 35 AUDIO CD POWER 2 An Audio CD Favorite Track Selection (FTS) lets you play your favorite Tracks in the order you set. An FTS Program can contain 20 Tracks. MP3 Playback MP3 is a compression method that makes digital music files up to 10 times smaller without losing significant sound quality. MP3 is common on the Internet, letting you transfer Tracks to your computer and onto a CD Recordable or CD Rewritable disc. Materials and equipment with which to make MP3 recordings are not supplied with this Player. MP3 files are recorded at a certain bit rate or speed.
SACD Sound Mode 37 There are three types of Super Audio CDs: single-layer, dual-layer, and hybrid. Each may contain two areas of recorded audio or sound modes: High Quality Stereo and High Quality Multi-channel. A single-layer SACD may contain both Stereo and Multi-channel. A dual layer SACD may contain both Stereo and Multi-channel, but twice the amount. Hybrid SACDs have two layers, the CD and SACD layers. Within the SACD layer are the SACD Stereo area and the SACD Multi-channel area.

CD Upsampling, IntelliPlay CD Upsampling CD Upsampling lets you adjust your CD’s sampling rate to improve the sound. You can increase the sampling rate from the standard 44.1 kHz/16 bit to the higher rates of 88.2 kHz/24bits or176.4 kHz/24bits. Or, you can turn off this feature. You also can turn the sampling rate on or off simply by pressing AUDIO on the remote control.
