3 GENERAL INFORMATION This coffee machine is intended for preparing espresso by using either coffee beans or ground coffee. It includes an automatic device for preparing milk beverages and a hot water dispenser. This machine is designed for domestic use only, and is not suitable for continuous heavy or professional use.

INSTALLATION 5 STARTING THE MACHINE Make sure the power button is not pressed and the machine is turned off. 1 Open the coffee bean hopper by pressing the button on the lid. Fill the bean hopper with coffee beans. 4 Fill the tank with fresh drinking water. Do not exceed the “max” level indicated on the water tank. Once filled place the tank back into the machine. 7 2 Close the lid pushing it down completely.
6 INSTALLATION SETTING THE LANGUAGE When the machine is switched-on for the first time, it requires the selection of the desired language. This allows you to adjust the parameters of the beverages to the typical parameters of the country where the machine is used. 7 INTENZA WATER FILTER To improve the quality of the water you use, and extend the life of your machine at the same time, it is recommended that you install the water filter. After installation, go to the water filter menu to initialize (see programming). By activating the water filter, the machine informs the user when the water filter must be replaced.

ADJUSTMENTS 9 MILK CONTAINER WARNING! DO NOT OPEN THE SERVICE DOOR DURING THE BREWING, DISPENSING, WASHING OR RINSE CYCLE. The container with the cappuccinatore must be filled before preparing any milk beverage. Use only fresh milk. Do not use milk after the best-before date. (Important! Refer to the instructions for maintenance and cleaning of the cappuccinatore on page 39-40). 1 2 Open the milk compartment by pressing the button and remove the milk container. Remove the cover and pour in the milk.
10 ADJUSTMENTS COFFEE STRENGTH The SBS dial has been carefully designed to give your coffee the fullness and intensity you desire. Simply turn the dial, and you will notice that the coffee brewed will adjust to the setting selected. SBS – SAECO BREWING SYSTEM MEDIUM COFFEEE SBS adjusts the fullness of the brewed coffee, and can even be adjusted while brewing. Any adjustment has an immediate effect on the brewing coffee.
BEVERAGE DISPENSING 11 THE DISPENSING OF COFFEE, HOT WATER AND MILK MAY BE STOPPED AT ANY TIME BY PRESSING THE BUTTON AGAIN. THE DISPENSED MILK CAN REACH HIGH TEMPERATURES: THERE IS A DANGER OF SCALDING. DO NOT TOUCH IT WITH BARE HANDS. USE ONLY FRESH MILK. DO NOT USE IT AFTER THE EXPIRATION DATE ON THE PACK AGE. Check that all containers are clean by following the "Cleaning and Maintenance" instructions on page 38.
12 BEVERAGE DISPENSING BREWING WITH PRE-GROUND COFFEE Pre-ground coffee must be scooped into the bypass doser next to the coffee bean hopper. Only use coffee that is ground specifically for espresso machines and never coffee beans or instant coffee. WARNING: PUT PRE-GROUND COFFEE IN THE BYPASS DOSER ONLY WHEN YOU WISH TO DISPENSE THIS TYPE OF BEVERAGE. INSERT ONLY ONE SCOOP OF GROUND COFFEE AT A TIME. To wash the brew group, simply clean with water as shown on page 41. This wash completes maintenance of the brew group. Packages of Saeco detergent tablets may be purchased directly from Saeco or an authorized service center. It is advisable to perform this wash cycle after 500 coffee brewing cycles, or monthly.
26 PROGRAMMING THE MACHINE Milk cleaning cycle > machine settings > maintenance > milk cleaning cycle WARNING! DO NOT OPEN THE SERVICE DOOR DURING THE BREWING, DISPENSING, WASHING OR RINSE CYCLE. To clean the machine’s internal circuits used for preparing milk. This cycle is proposed after 14 days from the first dispensing of a milk-based beverage. After 14 days, the “milk circuit washing” message starts flashing (see page 13). Perform the wash cycle as indicated in this section.

Descaling is necessary every 1-2 months, depending on the volume of use and hardness of the local water supply. The machine must be turned on and will automatically manage the distribution of the descaling agent. A PERSON MUST BE PRESENT DURING THE OPERATION. WARNING! NEVER USE VINEGAR AS A DESCALER. Please use Saeco descaling solution in your machine.

38 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE DURING OPERATION During normal operation, the “empty grounds drawer” message may appear. This operation must be performed when the machine is on. 1 If you remove grounds with the machine off or when not signaled on the display, the count of the grounds emptied into the drawer is not reset. For this reason the machine might display the “empty grounds drawer” message even after preparing just a few coffees. Remove the dregdrawer and empty and wash it.
39 MILK CONTAINER MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING WARNING! DO NOT OPEN THE SERVICE DOOR DURING THE BREWING, DISPENSING, WASHING OR RINSE CYCLE. The milk container and the cappuccinatore have been designed to optimize the milk froth. Thorough cleaning and maintenance of the milk container and cappuccinatore will allow you to savor excellent milk-based beverages. It is recommended to rinse the cappuccinatore before the first daily dispensing of milk-based products and wash it thoroughly at least once a week.
40 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE THOROUGH MAINTENANCE OF THE CAPPUCCINATORE Thoroughly wash the cappuccinatore at least once a week. The components should be hand-washed with household detergents. 1 2 Remove the cappuccinatore. 4 Separate the upper part of the cappuccinatore from the lower part. 5 Remove the cap from the lower part. Wash all components. Make sure that the hole is clean and unobstructed. 3 Remove the flow regulator.
41 CLEANING THE BREW GROUP The brew group must be cleaned at least once a week. Lubricate the brew group after approximately 500 brewing cycles. The brew group lubricant may be purchased directly from Saeco or any authorized service center. Wash the brew group with warm water. WARNING! Do not wash the brew group with detergents that can compromise its correct operation. Do not wash in the dishwasher. 1 Press to open the service door. 4 Wash the upper filter with running water.
42 CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE 10 11 12 Apply the grease evenly. Insert the washed and dried brew group. DO NOT PRESS THE "PUSH" BUTTON. Close the service door and insert the coffee dregdrawer. GRINDER MAINTENANCE After approximately 2000 grinding cycles, the grinder needs a slight adjustment to ensure it is running in peak condition. WARNING! This operation should be carried out carefully and by an experienced user.
43 STORING These instructions should be followed when a prolonged time of machine inactivity is foreseen. With few, simple steps, the machine will be ready for use again. - With the machine on: - Perform a wash cycle on the milk circuits (see page 26); Perform a cleaning cycle on the coffee circuits (see page 25). - With the machine off ("Cleaning and Maintenance" section): - Empty, wash and dry all the containers of the machine. Remove and clean the brew group, and lubricate its guides.

INSTALLATION 5 MISE EN MARCHE DE LA MACHINE S’assurer que l’interrupteur général n’est pas activé. 1 Appuyer sur le bouton situé sur le réservoir à café en grains pour ouvrir le couvercle. 7 FILTRE À EAU INTENZA Pour améliorer la qualité de l’eau utilisée et garantir en même temps une durée de vie accrue de l’appareil, il est conseillé d’installer le filtre à eau. Après l’installation, procéder au programme d’activation du filtre (voir programmation) de manière à ce que la machine puisse prévenir l’utilisateur du remplacement du filtre. Enlever le filtre de son emballage, ensuite le plonger verticalement dans l’eau froide (l’ouverture vers le haut).

Le réglage peut également être effectué durant la distribution du café. Ce réglage a un effet immédiat sur la distribution sélectionnée.

Remarque : ce rinçage est effectué après la phase de chauffage à chaque mise en marche de la machine mais peut être désactivé.

Il est conseillé d’effectuer ce cycle de lavage après 500 distributions de boissons contenant du café ou bien une fois par mois. Il est possible d’acheter les emballages de détergent en pastilles Saeco chez votre revendeur habituel ou bien auprès des centres d’assistance agréés.
26 PROGRAMMATION DE LA MACHINE Cycle lavage des circuits du lait > réglages machine > entretien > cycle lavage lait. ATTENTION ! NE PAS OUVRIR LA PORTE DE SERVICE PENDANT LES PHASES DE DISTRIBUTION, DE LAVAGE OU DE RINÇAGE. Cette fonction permet de laver les circuits internes de la machine qui servent à la préparation du lait. La machine propose d’effectuer ce cycle après 14 jours à partir de la distribution de la première boisson à base de lait.

29 Cycle de détartrage > réglages machine > entretien > cycle de détartrage. Cette fonction permet d’exécuter le cycle automatique de détartrage. Le détartrage est nécessaire tous les 1-2 mois, quand l’eau s’écoule plus lentement que d’habitude ou quand la machine le signale. La machine doit être allumée et elle gère automatiquement la distribution du détartrant. PENDANT CETTE OPÉRATION, LA PRÉSENCE D’UNE PERSONNE EST NÉCESSAIRE. ATTENTION ! NE JAMAIS UTILISER DE VINAIGRE POUR DÉTARTRER LA MACHINE.

38 NETTOYAGE ET ENTRETIEN ENTRETIEN PENDANT LE FONCTIONNEMENT Le message « Vider tiroir à marc » pourrait s’afficher lors du fonctionnement normal. Cette opération doit être effectuée avec la machine sous tension. 1 Le comptage du marc déposé dans le tiroir n’est pas remis à zéro en vidant le marc quand la machine est éteinte ou quand cette opération n’est pas signalée sur l’afficheur.
39 NETTOYAGE ET ENTRETIEN DU RÉSERVOIR À LAIT ATTENTION ! NE PAS OUVRIR LA PORTE DE SERVICE PENDANT LES PHASES DE DISTRIBUTION, DE LAVAGE OU DE RINÇAGE. Le réservoir à lait ainsi que le cappuccinatore ont été conçus pour optimiser l’utilisation du lait. En effectuant leur nettoyage et entretien de façon constante, il sera possible de déguster d’excellentes boissons à base de lait.
40 NETTOYAGE ET ENTRETIEN ENTRETIEN APPROFONDI CAPPUCCINATORE Laver soigneusement le cappuccinatore au moins une fois par semaine. Les composants peuvent être lavés avec des détergents à usage domestique. 1 2 Retirer le cappuccinatore. 4 Séparer la partie supérieure de celle inférieure du cappuccinatore. 5 Enlever le bouchon de la partie inférieure. Laver tous les composants. S’assurer qu’il n’y a pas de salissures ni d’obstructions dans le trou. 3 Retirer le bouchon.
41 NETTOYAGE DU GROUPE DE DISTRIBUTION Le nettoyage du groupe de distribution doit s’effectuer au moins une fois par semaine. Lubrifier le groupe de distribution après 500 distributions environ. Il est possible d’acheter la graisse pour lubrifier le groupe de distribution auprès des centres d’assistance agréés. Lavez le groupe de distribution avec de l’eau tiède. ATTENTION ! Ne lavez pas le groupe de distribution avec de détergents qui pourraient affecter son fonctionnement. Ne le lavez pas au lave-vaisselle.
42 NETTOYAGE ET ENTRETIEN 10 11 12 Distribuer la graisse de façon uniforme. Remontez-le sans appuyer sur la touche PUSH ! Fermer la porte de service et insérer le tiroir à marc. ENTRETIEN DES MEULES Après plusieurs cycles de mouture (2000 environ), il est nécessaire d'effectuer un petit réglage des meules afin d'obtenir un café moulu toujours parfait. ATTENTION ! Il est conseillé d’effectuer cette opération en prêtant beaucoup d’attention ; elle peut être effectuée par un utilisateur avisé.
43 RANGEMENT Observer les instructions suivantes au cas où la machine n'aurait pas été utilisée durant une longue période. Quelques opérations simples sont suffisantes avant de remettre la machine en marche.. - Machine allumée /sous tension : - Exécuter un cycle de lavage des circuits du lait (Voir page 26) ; - Exécuter un cycle de rinçage des circuits du café (Voir page 25). - Machine éteinte / hors tension (Chapitre « Nettoyage et entretien ») : - Vider, laver et sécher tous les bacs de la machine.
44 MESSAGES D˙ERREURS MESSAGES D’ERREUR MESURES À PRENDRE (redémarrer pour resoudre le problème ) Afin de rétablir le fonctionnement normal de l’appareil, éteignez-le et rallumez-le au bout de trente secondes. L’appareil présente un problème qui ne peut être éliminé que par le centre d’assistance. Mettre le bac d’égouttement sous le groupe de distribution. Fermez le couvercle du réservoir à grains de café afin de permettre à la boisson de s’écouler.
