Inserting the needle I Pfaff 245 and 1245-706/05: needle system 134-35 Pfaff 1245-706/08: needle system 190. Needle size and needle point style are de pendent on the material (see needle and thread chart on page 7). Bring the needle bar to its highest point. Loosen needle set screw A. Insert the needle and push it up as far as it will go. (Make sure its long groove faces toward the left.) Tighten needle set screw A securely. Mise en place de I’aiguille Fig.
Threading the needle Pull the thread from the reel and lead it through thread retainer 1 (Fig. 7a), then as shown in Fig. 7 through guide 2, thread retainer 3, clockwise around and between tension discs 4, around thread controller disc 5, through thread check spring 6 and into hook 7. From there lead the thread through guide 8, from the right through the hole in take-up lever 9, down and through thread guides 8 and 10, and through hole 11 of the needle bar.
Winding the bobbin Thread the bobbin winder as illustrated in Fig. 8. Place an empty bobbin on the winder spindle, wind a few turns of thread on the bobbin clock wise, and start the bobbin winder by pressing its spindle in with your thumb (see arrow). The amount of thread to be wound on the bobbin is regulated by loosening screw D and adjusting stud E. If the thread should pile up on one side, adjust the large thread guide accordingly. The thread tension is regulated by turning disc F.
Changing and threading the bobbin case f Turn the balance wheel to bring the take-up lever to its highest position. Open the bed slide, raise latch B and take out the bobbin case. Insert the full bobbin into the bobbin case so that when you pull the thread the bobbin turns in the direction indicated by an arrow. Draw the thread into slot x and under tension spring y so that it protrudes from the spring by about 2 inches. Insert the bobbin case with the bobbin into the bobbin case base and close latch B.
Drawing up the bobbin thread Hold the end of the needle thread and turn the balance wheel in sewing direction until the bobbin thread comes up through the needle hole in a loop. Draw the bobbin thread out of the needle hole and lay it back under the presser foot. Disregard these instructions if your machine is equipped with subcl. -900/.. thread trimmer.

Safety clutch If thread jamming occurs in the hook raceway, the hook drive is automatically disengaged. To re engage the hook drive, tilt the machine back. Pushpins back with a screwdriverto release latch K. Turn the balance wheel in sewing direction until you hear latch K snap in place in the clutch. Turn the balance wheel in reverse and remove the jammed thread. Now, the machine is ready for operation again. Fig.
Cleaning the sewing hook Clean the sewing hook thoroughly once a week. To do this, bring the needle bar to its highest point, open the bed slide and remove the bobbin case with the bobbin. Unscrew and remove hook gib B. Turn the balance wheel until pointS is about 5mm inside groove N. In this position take out the bobbin case base. Clean the hook raceway with kerosene. Replace the bobbin case base. When you insert the bobbin case base, make sure that finger F enters slot P in the needle plate.
