weaken them. Do, however, keep
them clean by following the care
label on the belts. Let them dry
completely before allowing them to
retract or be stowed away.
Make sure the seat belts and bunk
restraint of the unoccupied
passenger seat or bunk is fully
wound up on its retractor or is
stowed, so that the belt or restraint
tongue is in its properly stowed
position. This reduces the
possibility of the tongue becoming
a striking object in case of a
sudden stop.
Do not modify or disassemble the
seat belts or bunk restraint in your
vehicle. They will not be available
to keep you and your passengers
safe.
If any seat belt or bunk restraint is
not working properly, see
anauthorized dealer for repair or
replacement.
How to Use Lap/Shoulder Belt
Important safety information on using the
seat belts.
Follow these steps to fasten your seat belt
and be sure anyone riding with you does
the same.
WARNING
Proper seat belt adjustment and use is
important to maximize occupant safe-
ty. Failure to wear or adjust the safety
belt properly may result in death or
personal injury.
To fasten the belt:
1. Grasp the belt tongue.
2. Pull belt in a continuous slow
motion across your chest and lap.
3. Insert belt tongue into buckle on
inboard side of seat.
4. Push down until the tongue is
securely locked with an audible
click.
5. Pull belt to check for proper
fastening and adjustment
a. Pull shoulder section to make
sure belt fits snugly across the
chest and pelvis.
b. There should be less than one
inch (25 mm) gap between the
body and the belt.
c. The shoulder belt must be
positioned over the shoulder,
it must never rest against the
neck or be worn under the
arm.
d. Make sure any slack is wound
up on the retractor and that
the belt is not twisted.
If the belt is locked, lean the body back to
remove any tension in the belt. After
releasing the belt, allow the belt to retract
completely by guiding the belt tongue until
the belt comes to a stop.
To unfasten the belt, push the release
button on the buckle and the belt should
