asthepedalispushedtothelast1/2
to1inchoftravel,thereleasebearing
contactsandengagestheclutchbrake.
Thisiscalledclutchbrakesqueeze.
Whentheclutchwears,therelease
bearinggraduallymovestowardthe
engine,decreasingfreepedalandfree
travel.Whenallfreepedalandfree
travelaregone,theclutchrequires
adjustment.
Theclutchisadjustedbyturningan
adjustmentringthatisbuiltintothe
clutch.Whentheringisturned,the
releasebearingmovesbacktoward
thetransmission,restoringfreepedal
andclutchfreetravel.Undernormal
clutchwearthisistheonlyadjustment
needed.Donotattempttochangeany
othercomponent.SeetheMedium

ClutchAdjustment
NormalWear
Clutchpedalfreetravelisusually13/4
in.to2in.(34to51mm).Thisshould
beyourguidefordeterminingwhether
yourtruckneedsclutchadjustment.
Also,ifitbecomesincreasinglydifcult
toshiftintogears,orthetruckcreeps
withtheclutchpedaldepressed,your
clutchneedsadjustment.Seethe
MediumDutyMaintenanceManualfor
theproperadjustmentprocedures.
Somevehicleshaveautomaticclutch
adjustment.Ifyoursdoesn'thavethis
feature,adjustmentwillhavetobe
donebyatrainedcertiedmechanic.
Havetheadjustmentdonebefore
clutchpedalfreetravelisreducedto
theminimumallowable1/2in.(13mm).
ClutchLinkage
TheMediumDutyisequippedwith
arodandlevermechanicalclutch
linkage.Lubricateeachpivotpointon
theclutchlinkage.
