maneuvers,suchassharp
turnsorabruptlanechangesat
highspeeds,whichmighttrigger
thestabilitysystem.
•Alwaysoperatethevehiclesafely,
drivedefensively,anticipate
obstaclesandpayattention
toroad,weatherandtrafc
conditions.ABS,ATCandESC
systemsarenosubstitutefor
prudent,carefuldriving.
TowingDoublesOrTriplesMay
ReduceTheEffectivenessOf
StabilitySystems
ESCisdesignedandoptimizedfor
trucksandfortractorsthattowsingle
trailers.Ifatractorequippedwith
ESCisusedtopowermultipletrailer
combinations(knownas"doubles"or
"triples")theeffectivenessoftheESC
systemmaybegreatlyreduced.

Exerciseextremecarewhentow-
ingdoublesortripleswithavehicle
equippedwithElectronicStabil-
ityControl.Excessivespeedand
aggressivemaneuvers,suchas
sharpturns,suddensteeringinputs
orabruptlanechangesshouldbe
avoidedbecausethesemaneuvers
couldcauselossofvehiclecontrol
possiblyresultinginanaccidentin-
volvingdeathorpersonalinjury.
LimitationsOfStabilitySystems
TheESCsystem’seffectivenessmay
begreatlyreducedif:
•Theloadshiftsduetoimproper
retention,accidentdamageorthe
inherentlymobilenatureofsome
loads(forexample,hangingmeat,
liveanimalsorpartiallyladen
tankers),
•Thevehiclehasanunusuallyhigh
oroff-setcenterofgravity(CG),
•Onesideofthevehicledropsoff
thepavementatananglethatis
toolargetobecounteractedbya
reductioninspeed,
•Thevehicleisusedtohauldouble
ortripletrailercombinations,
•Ifveryrapidlywindingsteering
inputsareinputtedathighspeeds,
•Therearemechanicalproblems
withsuspensionlevelingofthe
