ShiftingGearsinaNewVehicle
Shiftcarefullyinanewvehicle.The
transmissionmaybealittlestiffat
rst.Avoidgearclashing,byclosely
followingtheseprocedures.
Whenyouareoperatinganewvehicle
oronethathasbeenexposedtocold
weather,youwantthetransmission
lubricant(uid)tocirculateandcoat
thecontactingsurfacesofthegears.
Metalcontactingmetalinmoving
partsmayseriouslydamageyour
transmission,donotdriveinone
gearforlongperiodsoftimeuntilthe
transmissionlubricanthasachanceto
coatallcontactingsurfaces.
ClutchBrakeandTravel
Theclutchbrakeisusedforstopping
transmissiongears,allowingyouto
easilyshiftintorstgearorreverse
withoutgrindinggears.Approximately
thelast½inch(13mm)ofclutchpedal
travelactivatestheclutchbrake.
Toapplytheclutchbrake(whilethe
vehicleisstopped)fullydepressthe
clutchpedaltostopthegears.With
thethrottleatidle,selectrstgear
thenreleasetheclutchpedaltoletthe
vehiclestartforward,untiltheclutchis
fullyengaged.Seethemanufacturer's

forfurtherdetails.
Ifthetransmissionhasabutt-tooth
conditionandyoucannotengagea
gear,graduallyreleasetheclutch.
Thenthedrivegearcanrollenoughto
allowtheteethtolineupproperlyand
completetheshift.
