OPERATINGTHETRANSMISSION
ClutchBrakeandTravel(9–,10–,
and11–SpeedTransmissionsonly)
Thesetransmissionsutilizeaclutch
brake,ratherthansynchronizers.The
clutchbrakeworksbystoppingallof
thegearsinthetransmission,allowing
youtoeasilyshiftintorstgearor
reversewithoutgrindinggears.The
totalstrokeoftheclutchpedalisabout
10inches.Therstpartistherelease
stroke:thepartthatfullyreleases
theclutch.Thelastinchengagesthe
clutchbrake.
Duringhard-shiftingwithvehicle
notmoving
Toapplytheclutchbrake(while
thevehicleisstopped)fully
depresstheclutchpedaltothe
oorboardtostopthegears.With
thethrottleatidle,selectrstgear
thenreleasetheclutchpedalto
letthevehiclestartforward,until
theclutchisfullyengaged.See
thetransmissionmanufacturer's
manualthatisincludedwithyour
vehicleforfurtherdetails.
DuringNormalDriving
Ifyouwanttoshiftdirectlyintoanygear
otherthanrstorreverse,depressthe
clutchpedalonlyfarenoughtorelease
theclutch.Pushingtheclutchtothe
oorappliestheclutchbrakeandcould
causegearhang-up.
CAUTION
Becarefulnottoapplytheclutch
brakewhilethevehicleismoving.
Thepurposeoftheclutchbrakeis
tostopthetransmissionsothatyou
canshiftintoastartinggearwithout
grindinggears.Applyingtheclutch
brakewhenthevehicleismoving
causesabrakingeffectonthedrive-
trainandshortenstheservicelifeof
theclutchbrake.
DoubleClutching
Whetheryouareupshiftingordown
shifting,itisbesttodoubleclutch.
Doubleclutchingiseasieronthe
transmissionandontheengine,
helpingyourvehiclematchengine
speedwithdrivelinespeedand
achievingclash-freeshifts.T odouble
clutch:
1.Pushtheclutchpedaldownto
disengagetheclutch.
2.Movethegearshiftleverto
Neutral.
3.Releasethepedaltoengage
theclutch.Thisletsyoucontrol
therpmofthemainshaftgears,
allowingyoutomatchtherpmof
themainshaftgearstothoseofthe
outputshaft.
°Upshifts:lettheengineand
gearsslowdowntotherpm
requiredforthenextgear.
