Upshifts: let the engine and
gears slow down to the rpm
required for the next gear

Downshifts: press accelerator,
increase engine and gear
speed to the rpm required in the
lower gear.
4. Now quickly press the pedal to
disengage the clutch and move the
gear shift lever to the next gear
speed position.
5. Release the pedal to engage the
clutch.
Automatic Transmissions
An automatic transmission makes shifting
much easier. It remains important to
completely understand how to operate the
transmission to optimize its efficiency.
Please read the manual for your automatic
transmission included with your vehicle.
WARNING
DO NOT leave the cab of your vehicle
without applying the parking brake.
The truck could roll and cause an acci-
dent resulting in death or personal in-
jury. Always apply the parking brake
before you leave the cab.
Automated Transmissions
This vehicle may have a P
ACCAR or Eaton
automated transmission. It remains
important to completely understand how to
operate the transmission to optimize its
efficiency. Please read the manual for the
automated transmission included with your
vehicle.
Not all automated transmissions have a
"park" position, so you will need to apply
the parking brake before leaving the cab.
WARNING
If your vehicle has an automated
transmission, be aware that it can roll
backwards when stopped on a hill or
grade, or when starting from a stop on
a hill or grade. Failure to comply may
result in death, personal injury, equip-
ment or property damage. Observe the
following guidelines: (1) When stopped
on a hill or grade, press the brake ped-
al. (2) When starting from a stop on a
hill or grade, quickly remove your foot
from the brake pedal and firmly press
on the accelerator pedal.

Hill Hold
The hill hold feature is available as an
option with certain automated
transmissions. This feature holds the
vehicle while on a hill to allow the operator
to release the service brakes and press the
accelerator. This feature will hold the
vehicle if the vehicle is attempting to go up
a hill from a stop in either drive or reverse.

more than one shifting configuration to
