Theseatbeltsystem,including
webbing,buckles,latches,and
mountinghardware,enduresheavy
useinheavy-dutyvehicles,muchmore
thanseatbeltsystemsinpassenger
cars.Allusersshouldbeawareofthe
factorscontributingtothisheavyuse
andreducedbeltlife.

Failuretoproperlyinspectandmain-
tainrestraintsystemscanleadtoin-
juryorlossoflife.Withoutperiodic
inspectionandmaintenancetode-
tectunsafeconditions,seatrestraint
componentscanwearoutornotpro-
tectyouinanaccident.
Factorscontributingtoreducedseat
beltlife:
•Heavytruckstypicallyaccumulate
twiceasmanymilesasthe
averagepassengercarinagiven
timeperiod.
•Seatandcabmovementin
truckscausesalmostconstant
movementofthebeltduetoride
characteristicsandseatdesign.
Theconstantmovementofthebelt
insidetherestrainthardwareand
thepotentialforthebelttocome
incontactwiththecabandother
vehicleparts,contributestothe
wearoftheentiresystem.
•Environmentalconditions,suchas
dirtandultravioletraysfromthe
sun,willreducethelifeoftheseat
beltsystem.
Duetothesefactors,thethree-point
safetybeltsysteminstalledinyour
vehiclerequiresthoroughinspection
every20,000miles(32,000km).If
thevehicleisexposedtosevere
environmentalorworkingconditions,
morefrequentinspectionsmaybe
necessary.
Anyseatbeltsystemthatshowscuts,
fraying,extremeorunusualwear,
signicantdiscolorationduetoUV
(ultraviolet)exposure,abrasiontothe
seatbeltwebbing,ordamagetothe
buckle,latchplate,retractorhardware
oranyotherobviousproblemshould
bereplacedimmediately,regardless
ofmileage.
