Sinceeachvehicleis
custom-equipped,allengineoperation
instructionsinthismanualaregeneral.
Youwillwanttoconsultthemanualfor
yourenginetondoutdetailsabout
yourspecicengine’sneeds.You
mayneedtouseaslightlydifferent
procedurefromtheoneoutlinedhere.
Thefollowinginstructionsarefor
bothnormal-temperaturestartingand
cold-weatherstarting.
NormalWeather
Whentheoutsidetemperatureis
above50°F(10°C),youcanusethe
followingprocedure.
1.Settheparkingbrake.
2.Putyourmaintransmissionin
Neutral.
3.Disengage(depress)theclutch
(withmanualtransmission).
4.TurnthekeyswitchtoON.
CAUTION
Neveroperatethestartermotorwhile
theengineisrunning.Thestarter
andywheelgearscouldclashor
jam,severelydamagingthem.
NOTE
Somestartersareequippedwith
overcrankprotection.Checkthe
EngineOperationandMaintenance
Manualfordetails.
5.TurntheignitionkeytotheSTART
position.Iftheenginedoesnot
startwithin30seconds,release
theignitionswitch.T oavoid
overtaxingthestartermotoror
thebatteries,don’tusethestarter
formorethan30seconds.Let
thestartermotorcoolandthe
batteriesrecoverfortwominutes
beforetryingagain.
Iftheenginestillwon’tstartaftera
coupleoftries,checkthefuellines
forpossiblefuelstarvationorair
leaks.Startingfailuremaymean
fuelisn’treachingtheinjectors.
6.Assoonastheenginestarts,begin
towatchtheoilpressuregauge.
