FRONTAXLEANDSUSPENSION
U-BoltTorque
ItisimportantthatU-boltsremaintight.
Severeuseofyourvehiclewillcause
themtoloosenfaster.Butallvehicles
needtohavetheirU-boltscheckedand
tightenedregularly.Besuresomeone
withthepropertrainingandtheright
toolschecksandtightenstheU-bolts
onyourvehicle.
Newspringscansettleinafterservice,
relievingthetensionontheU-bolts.
LooseU-boltscancauseleafspring
breakage,axlemisalignment,hard
steeringandabnormaltirewear.
Allvehiclesshouldhavesuspension
U-boltstightenedaftertherst500
miles(800km)ofoperation.Re-torque
thefrontspringpinchboltsandshackle
pinchbolts.
WARNING
Donotoperatethevehicleifthe
U-boltsarenotproperlytightened.
LooseU-boltswillcausetheaxle
tonotbeproperlysecuredtothe
suspension,whichcouldcause
lossofvehiclecontrolandan
accident.LooseU-boltscanalso
causeuneventirewearandpoor
alignment.Failuretocomplymay
resultindeath,personalinjury,
equipmentorpropertydamage.
U-boltsaredifculttotightenunless
youhavetherightequipment.Ifyou
cannottightenthemcorrectlyyourself,
besuretohavethemcheckedand
tightenedregularlybyanauthorized
mechanic.
TightenU-boltnutstothespecied
torquevaluewiththevehicleloadedto
itsnormalgrossweight.Thefollowing
torquevaluesapplytoU-boltsand
nutswithcleanthreadslubricatedwith
Chevronzinclubricant(SAE20or30
oilsacceptablebutnotpreferred).
WARNING
DonotreplaceU-boltsandnuts
withcommonU-boltsorstandard
nuts.Thesepartsarecriticalto
vehiclesafety.IfthewrongU-bolts
ornutsareused,theaxlecould
loosenorseparatefromthevehicle
andcauseaseriousaccident.
UseonlyU-boltsandnutsofSAE
Grade8specicationorbetter.
Failuretocomplymayresultin
death,personalinjury,equipmentor
propertydamage.
