inanaccident.Railfailuresresulting
fromsuchmodicationsarenot
warrantable.Failuretocomply
mayresultindeath,personalinjury,
equipmentorpropertydamage.
EmergencyWelding
WARNING
FrameweldingisNOT
recommended.Thehighheat
ofweldingnulliesthespecial
heattreatmentoftherails,greatly
reducingthetensilestrengthof
theframerail.Ifaframemember
becomescrackedfromoverloading,
fatigue,surfacedamageora
collision,theonlypermanentrepair
istoreplacethedamagedframe
memberwithanewpart.
Inanemergency,atemporaryrepair
maybeperformed.Observethe
followingprecautionstoprotect
electronicsystemsduringwelding
operations.Emergencywelding
proceduresarefurtherexplainedinthe
maintenancemanuals.Pleasereferto
theorderinginformationontheback
covertoobtainamaintenancemanual.
WeldingPrecautions
Intheeventofemergencyweldingofa
framerailandwhenweldinganyother
partofyourtruckoranycomponent
attachedtoyourtruck,observethe
followingprecautionsbeforewelding:
•Disconnectallelectronicdevices.
Itisnotpossibletolistallofthe
electronicsthatcouldbeaffected,
butafewexamplesincludethe
following:alternator,engine
ElectronicControlUnit(ECU),
transmissionECU,ABSECU,
navigationdevices,diagnostic
devices,andmonitoringdevices.
•Disconnectbatterycablesand
insulatethemfromthevehicle.
•DonotusetheECUorengine
groundstudforthegroundofthe
weldingprobe.
•Ensurethatthegroundconnection
forthewelderisasclosetothe
