railsordrillthroughthetopor
bottomangesoftherails.These
operationscouldaffectframerail
strengthleadingtoafailureresulting
inanaccident.Railfailuresresulting
fromsuchmodicationsarenot
warrantable.Failuretocomply
mayresultindeath,personalinjury,
equipmentorpropertydamage.
EmergencyWelding
WARNING
FrameweldingisNOT
recommended.Thehighheat
ofweldingnulliesthespecial
heattreatmentoftherails,greatly
reducingthetensilestrengthof
theframerail.Ifaframemember
becomescrackedfromoverloading,
fatigue,surfacedamageora
collision,theonlypermanentrepair
istoreplacethedamagedframe
memberwithanewpart.
Inanemergency,atemporaryrepair
maybeperformed.Observethe
followingprecautionstoprotect
electronicsystemsduringwelding
operations.Emergencywelding
proceduresarefurtherexplainedinthe
maintenancemanuals.Pleasereferto
theorderinginformationontheback
covertoobtainamaintenancemanual.
WeldingPrecautions
Intheeventofemergencyweldingofa
framerailandwhenweldinganyother
partofyourtruckoranycomponent
attachedtoyourtruck,observethe
followingprecautionsbeforewelding:
Disconnectallelectronicdevices.
Itisnotpossibletolistallofthe
electronicsthatcouldbeaffected,
butafewexamplesincludethe
following:alternator,engine
ElectronicControlUnit(ECU),
transmissionECU,ABSECU,
navigationdevices,diagnostic
devices,andmonitoringdevices.
Disconnectbatterycablesand
insulatethemfromthevehicle.
DonotusetheECUorengine
groundstudforthegroundofthe
weldingprobe.
Ensurethatthegroundconnection
forthewelderisasclosetothe
