commoncausesofbatteryfailure:
Overcharge:thisconditionresults
fromimpropervoltageregulator
adjustment.Itresultsinoverheating
ofthebattery,warpedplates,and
evaporationofelectrolyte.
Undercharge:thevoltageregulator
ismalfunctioning,thedrivebeltis
slipping,oryourvehiclehasundergone
longperiodsofstandingidleorshort
distancedriving.Theseconditions
resultinbatteryplatesbecoming
coveredwithahardcoating.
Vibration:loosebatteryhold-downs
maycausebatteryplatefailure.
ShortCircuits:thesedischargethe
batterybydrainingelectricity.
DirtyorLooseConnections:
improperconnectionsmaystopthe
owofelectricalpowertoandfromthe
battery.
BatteryCharging
Exceptforusingsmalltricklecharges
tomaintainbatterycondition,you
shouldhaveyourvehicle'sbatteries
chargedbyaqualiedservicefacility.
WARNING
Batteriescaninjureyouseverely.
Theycontainacid,produce
poisonousandexplosivegases,and
supplylevelsofelectriccurrenthigh
enoughtocauseburns.Aspark
oramenearabatteryoncharge
maycauseittoexplodewithgreat
force.Neverremoveortamperwith
thebatterycaps.Failuretocomply
mayresultindeath,personalinjury,
equipmentorpropertydamage.
