Iftheenginerpmmovesbeyond
themaximumgovernedspeed,
indicatinganoverspeedcondition,
applytheservicebrakeorshiftto
ahighergeartobringenginerpm
withintheoptimumspeedrange.
Whendrivingdownhill:shifttoa
lowergear,usetheenginebrake
(ifsoequipped),andusethe
servicebrake,keepingtheengine
speedbelow2,100rpm.
Whentheenginespeedreaches
itsmaximumgovernedspeed,the
injectionpumpgovernorcutsofffuel
totheengine.However,thegovernor
hasnocontrolovertheenginerpm
whenitisbeingdrivenbythevehicle's
transmission,forexample,onsteep
downgrades.Applyservicebrakesor
shifttoahighergear.
Fueleconomyandengineperformance
arealsodirectlyrelatedtodriving
habits:

Shiftintohigherorlowergears(or
