DifferentialLock
Thevehiclemaybeequippedwith
switchestolocktheeitheroftherear
axledifferentials.Dependingonhow
thevehicleisspecied,acombination
individualswitchesmaybeavailable
thatcanlocktheinteraxledriveline
and/oranycombinationoftheforward
rearorrear-reardrivingaxles.
Theinteraxledifferentialswitchallows
eachaxletoturnindependently.
Incertainsituations,engagingthe
interaxledifferentiallockrelieves
stressontherearaxlesandreduces
tirewear.Engagingthisswitchwill
alsoprovidebettertractioninslippery
orloosegravelconditions.
IntheLOCKposition,continuous
operationonpaved,drysurfaces,put
stressontheaxles,andcanpossibly
damagetheinternalgears.Theswitch
hasaguardtopreventaccidental
operationoftheswitch.
Lockingthedifferentialsistypically
usedduringiceorsnowconditions
andwithouttirechains,unpavedroads
thathaveloosesand,mudoruneven
surfaces.Lookaheadandpredict
whenthedifferentialneedstobe
locked.Stopthevehicleandlockthe
differentialsbeforeapproaching.
Whileusingthedifferentialinthe
lockedposition,donotexceed25mph
(40km/h).Whendisengagingthe
differentiallock,reducethethrottleto
preventdrivetraindamage.
WARNING
Donotputthedifferentiallockinthe
LOCKpositionwhilethewheelsare
spinningfreely(slipping),youcould
losecontrolofthevehicleorcause
axledamage.SwitchtoLOCKonly
whenthewheelsarenotspinning.
Failuretocomplymayresultin
death,personalinjury,equipmentor
propertydamage.
